I would step in and remind them that this is a joyous occasion and that we are focusing on the wrong moment. Rather than giving praise to the children, we are dwelling on ONE negative occasion that simply won't matter tomorrow. I would attempt to separate the families and de-escalate in the moment; this is the type of situation that likely won't be resolved immediately. After separating, set up follow up conversations with each.

I think I would quickly assess the situation and determine if this is going to become a physical altercation. If so, I would immediately get school security involved. If I think if I don't think they are going to be physical I would approach and try to calm the situation.
