Preoperative anxiety is a state of nervousness and unhappiness, a defensive behaviour due to the impending anaesthesia and surgery, characterised by fluctuations in the level of anxiety and the degree of anxiety over time, and closely related to personality traits.

Some patients may have a positive attitude towards surgery, especially if it relieves pain or improves quality of life. They may feel hopeful and expect that the surgery will restore their health or improve their quality of life.

In order to reduce psychological stress prior to surgery, many patients may develop different psychological coping strategies, such as denying the risks of the surgery or relieving stress through positive thinking (e.g., meditation, prayer, etc.).

Some patients may try to avoid thinking about the surgery and divert their attention from the increased anxiety. This avoidance strategy may help with emotional calming in the short term, but is not necessarily an effective way to cope in the long term.

Light pink brings emotional tenderness and care, while light green offers the balance and revival of nature. Together, they create a warm and calming environment that helps people feel soothed and included, while at the same time rejuvenating their spirits.

When used in spatial design, light pinks and light greens can provide a comfortable, safe and vibrant environment for people who are anxious, tired or emotionally lost. These colour combinations are particularly suited to lounges, meditation spaces, and treatment rooms where the emphasis is on comfort and tranquillity.

Warm white provides emotional comfort and reassurance, while brown brings emotional stability and a sense of security. Combined, they can help those with unstable emotions or confused thoughts find a sense of balance that is relaxing without overstimulating the senses.

The overall colours are bright and in line with colour psychology.

Then I came up with the idea of painting flowers to provide spiritual comfort to the patient. However, the problem remained that the content of the paintings had no depth and it was difficult to ensure that all the patients loved flowers, so I gave up on this direction as well.

The third time, I chose to create a picnic, but in the process I found that I couldn't create 8 thematic and coherent illustrations, and the style of the paintings was too detailed and didn't suit the slightly abstract feeling I wanted to express.

The client thought that I could extend the fountain painting to make it in landscape mode, which would be more beautiful in the waiting area. Also she thought that my fireworks artwork should be placed on the bays. I made more changes in the next paintings according to her suggestions.

His paintings are not purely realistic records, but rather recreations infused with personal feelings and emotions. For example, he will enhance certain elements through exaggerated compositions or colours to convey an atmosphere of serenity, pleasure or nostalgia. This technique reminds us that in art creation, we can start from the things around us and inject subjective emotions into the picture, thus giving more meaning to the work.

His paintings are not simple reproductions of landscapes, but rather, they are infused with personal emotions through subtle expressions. Learning this technique will help me to better convey my inner thoughts and feelings in my creations.

Yarrington combines traditional painting with modern techniques to create a unique style. He also uses colour to express the complexity of his characters, conveying anger, sadness and despair.

I would like to learn how he combines landscapes with fragments of the soul, which he makes very visible and highlights the emotions of the self.

My designs have always been centred around psychology and sociology, and I hope to help more people in need to alleviate their worries and pain through design. I believe that such designs are not only meaningful to the viewers, but also a valuable creative experience for myself. In this project, I use ‘memory’ as the core keyword to explore the happiness and motivation brought by good memories. Although fragments of memories are abstractions that cannot be seen directly by others, photos can help us record those precious moments during our journey. Therefore, I chose to use beautiful natural scenery to express ‘beautiful memories’. Fragments’ are not just fleeting flashes of inspiration, but can also be visualised.

As an animal lover, I have fond memories of many animals, such as loyal dogs, obedient cats, free butterflies, koi carp that symbolise good luck, and friendly whales. When photographing landscapes, these animals often appear in the shot, adding life to the picture. Therefore, I designed these animals as symbols of ‘soul fragments’ in my illustrations, and made them stand out more by keeping only their outlines and depicting them in bright white colour. The overall style is simple and bright, and I referenced artist Tanya's colour scheme to create a utopian illustration.

During my session with Carlos, he gave me some valuable advice on the details of the painting, such as ‘the trees in the near distance should be clearer, while the trees in the far distance should be more blurred’. Based on his advice, I made adjustments to the illustration of the forest scene, and the finished product was significantly improved, for which I am very grateful.

Of course, this project also made me realise some of my own shortcomings in creation:

1. Started creation without determining the size: Since I did not specify the size requirements at the initial stage, I had to spend more time and effort on adjustments at a later stage. This was an opportunity to stretch the creation, but it also exposed my shortcomings in pre-planning.

2. Time Management Problems**: Failure to organise my time wisely led to a very heavy workload in the last week, and the efficiency needs to be further improved.

3. Colour Output Problems**: During the second presentation, the output colours appeared dull due to the CMYK format used for the print files, which is a serious problem for a commercial project.

In future projects, I will pay more attention to detail optimisation and time planning, and confirm the project needs and output requirements in advance to ensure a more efficient creative process and ultimately present a better work. This experience has benefited me a lot and made me look forward to my future design exploration.
