This type of behavior has its own main attributes. They range from showing empathy and/or providing support with care through selfless actions. This behavior is meant to be beneficial for another at the cost of one's own sacrifice. Ultimately though, both parties can benefit, especially in a group. An example would be squirrels. If the babies are without parents, other squirrels will "adopt" them so they are under their care. Although, the baby has to be closely akin to the adoptive parent.

This behavior has become an adaptation because helping one another is advantageous for survival of a group's survival rather than being selfish with one's own survival. Those surviving because of selflessness are able to produce offspring passing on genes which include that magnanimity. The benefits of social behavior as a whole for living things is something necessary for survival. Through interaction with one another, help is provided as responsive support. Not only that, but survival advantages can be notably taken into account for groups.

I strongly believe this behavior is critical to ensure a high rate of survival. This behavior is extremely helpful for groups as all parties are expected to benefit from it. Not only does this apply to animals, but humans as well. Humans helping one another would be in various forms like, for example, emotional support. Magnanimity can be passed down from humans just as it can be passed down with animals.
