Purpose - To see if there was a line between the associated learning in humans vs animals 

Procedure - An animal placed in a box, with 1 exit 

Animal pushes lever and get out, and once they get out, they receive a reward 

Then the animal is put back in the box and performs the same simple task again. 

Each time the animal got out the latency would decrease because the animal responds to the stimulus quickly 

Results 
The animals were able to find out how to solve problems set for them which would be considered intelligent if humans could do it

The time to escape was decreasing over more trials and time

There was high correlation between the stimulus and the response 
Practice makes habits - law of exercise 

Ethical - Yes it was ethical, according to the APA, it benefits both the human and the animal 

Relevance 

The study and theory are relevant today, set the basic foundation for learned behavior today 


Skinner 
PROBLEM 
The major problems of the world today can be solved only if we improve our understanding of human behavior
PROCEDURE 
Skinner put hungry and thirsty rat, and if rat did something then he would provide positive reinforcement, both rats and pigeons 
RESULTS 
The events following the response had a greater influence of the later rate of occurrence
Operant - Lever Press

Fixed Ratio - Reinforcement given after a specific number of response 

ETHICAL 
Skinner kept them in boxes 
Never harmed the animals 
Rewarded them with positive reinforcement

Strikes a bar when ever the baby was near the fluffy white rat 
The rat became a conditioned stimulus that elicited a conditioned response

Albert became scared of things that he was conditioned to be scared of.

Still had fears after he left the experiment 
The baby was not reconditioned

- Procedure 
       3 kid groups exposed to Violent, Calm, and no behavior 
       Kids given mild aggression arousal
       Child is observed in a room alone 
- Results 
      Boys are more aggressive than girls 
-Ethics 
      Children not debriefed and were not told that the adults were models
-Relevance 
     Males follow male role models 
     Child sees father being aggressive, so the child believes aggression is a good form of communication
