The drape has allowed me to play with volume throughout the body in different proportions.

For me, the most successful design is the third silhouette because the contrast between a structured bodice and fluid, asymmetric skirt/dress mimics the idea of putting two unexpected elements together such as deconstruct/reconstruct.

Keyword: Reconstruct/Deconstruct

These two designs are completely different to the draped garments from my previous design ideas. These ideas work with the idea of two dimensional patterns and simple geometric shapes to play with the idea of deconstruct/reconstruct.

The red and black pen lines could indicate where I place seam lines to stitch my garments together. I really like the contrast between the idea of a feminine off the shoulder garment and statement trousers in the second look.

I will look into the work of designs such as Craig Green to experiment with more design details and construction methods if I develop this idea further.

These images show how culture can be expressed through fabric, layering, and form. The oversized, draped textiles symbolize tradition and the richness of cultural heritage, where cloth is more than clothing—it carries identity, rituals, and history.

The patterns (lines, stripes, and grids) represent structure and order within a culture, while the flowing, voluminous shapes show diversity, movement, and transformation. The earthy tones suggest a grounding in tradition, while the added blue lines hint at modern connections and dialogue across cultures.

Overall, these designs use fabric as a cultural language: wrapping, layering, and reshaping it to show how culture is both protective and expressive, something that surrounds the body and gives meaning.

The first designs show minimal, structured shapes, symbolizing early traditions and roots. As the designs progress, they become more layered and voluminous, reflecting how culture grows, transforms, and accumulates meaning over time.

These two different garments explore culture by deconstructing and reconstructing traditional textile motifs. The bold paisley and floral patterns reference cultural fabrics often used in heritage dress. By reshaping and layering them into oversized, abstract silhouettes, the designs take something familiar from cultural tradition and transform it into new contemporary forms. This process reflects how culture is carried forward—broken apart, reinterpreted, and rebuilt in new contexts while still holding onto its roots.
