Including this term, I have only been learning ballet for 2.5 years. I am very much still a novice when I come to ballet therefore it was nice to use this opportunity to really inhabit this style of dance rather than just copying what the teacher is doing.

I have always enjoyed ballet as a physical challenge and a direct source to pinpoint my progression in both strength and flexibility within dance, this has only been emphasised within this period of lockdown where classes were done online

-Bringing the focus inwards (ie. no mirrors)
> I have always learned ballet with mirrors and have always been told that I focus too much on the 2-dimensional space between my body and the mirror, by doing ballet at home I took this as a chance to "relearn" ballet in a new way, one where it is more focus on the internal mechanisms of the body instead of how it should look

-Musically within the ballet
>as a dancer I have always been in tune with the music and used it as one of my main driving forces when dancing most notably within improvisation. This is something that I wanted to transfer into my balletic practice as unconciusly the structured-ness and rigidness of ballet often restricted me to find a deeper connection to music

-Self-discipline and injury prevention
>thoughout this term I have grown to appreciate the routine and structured timetable from previous terms. By setting my own scale of intensity (loosely based around periodisation from BA1) I have been effectively interweaving external activities to support my ballet training (ie working out and external dance classes). This discipline has allowed me to grow as an independent artist who is more aware of their body to reduce the chances of injury.

This section of the assessment showcases a visual progression of my ballet technique over the course of a term. In which I will be specifically focussing on the tendu and adagio exercises in the center.

I am aware that one of the themes I wanted to focus on this term is to reduce the reliance on mirrors within my practice, but due to the nature of the online classes, the comments and corrections I got were few and far between, therefore by recording myself I could review the class and phrases we did, so that for the next class I set specific parameters in which I could work towards (ie something simple like relaxing my body or something more drastic like the need to strengthen my calves )

-Tendu's even though may look easy from the outside eye, but in retrospect a very hard technique

-the progression of my tendu vary day-to-day, it very much reflects upon the style of music being played and the other components within a tendu phrase/ exercise, like the addition of a pirouette

- thought out this term of online classes I have understood the importance of feet returning into the proper fifth position or else the body alignment and weight will be off for the moves to come.

- Over the winter break with a lack of practice, my body really noticed the difference in my ability from previous terms when ballet was done consistently. This is discrepancy only motivated me to work harder.

-thought at the beginning I was less flexible and strong I really focussed on the alignment of the developpes rather than the height, allowing my body to feel comfortable and a biomechanically correct turn out position.

-By doing classes in a smaller space, it has allowed my body to connect greater to my surrounding, using imagery (ie my body being supported by webs connect to the walls) to enhance my stability and extension of limbs into space.
