The story dives deep into the history of Andwànikàdjigan's Village and the world there was before it was destroyed by the people in power. Learning about this history, helps the reader under Andwànikàdjigan, her emotions and trauma. A big lesson I got from the story is how important history is and why we need to learn and talk about it so it does not happen again. The people in power wanted to erase people's knowledge of their history which would lead to repetition of violence.

The story has deep ties with sociology. It does this by having themes about oppression, social structures, and identity. The people in charge were at the top of the social structure and greatly abused that power by oppressing Andwànikàdjigan and the people in her village. The people in charge tried to erase Andwànikàdjigan's cultural identity and the other indigenous people in her town.

The story discusses economics by discussing themes about distribution of power and the controlling of resources. All the power in Andwànikàdjigan's world is in the hands of the people in charge. The story also suggests that the people in charge have a lot of control over the resources that the indigenous people have and that they abuse this situation.

The story explores themes of culture and cultural studies by discussing cultural erasure and the importance of cultural solidarity. The people in power try to erase Andwànikàdjigan's culture by imprisioning them, burning their town, and killing them. Although Andwànikàdjigan went through all of that, she chose to keep telling others about the history. In solidarity everyone in the prison got the bumps but in return history was passed on.

The story explores themes of gender by exploring the oppression of Andwànikàdjigan and her village and the role that gender plays in it. Andwànikàdjigan describes the trauma she had to endure including prison. The struggles she goes through reflect's many similar struggles today women have to go through like being denied autonomy and being forced into restrictive roles.

The story explores themes of health and medicine by discussing the control of bodily autonomy and the impact that oppressive powers have on well being. Andwànikàdjigan and her village are forced to work and don't have a lot of choice in the matter. They are taken to prison for unjustified reasons. We see the physical and mental well being of Andwànikàdjigan declining while she goes through trauma under the oppressive power of the people in power.
