Nobody acknowledges when Simon suggests this beast is not real, Ralph just agrees "as if agreeing about the weather. No, I suppose not". This is plausible as the boys are stuck on an island during WWII. This dead pilot is most likely a deceased air force pilot meaning that it is plausible. 

Impact of story to the boys:
When Sam and Eric retell the story to the rest of the boys, they over exaggerate the events that took place, striking fear into the boys and further convincing them that the 'beast' is real. All believe Sam and Eric except for Simon who doesn't believe in the beast. The boys' elected a leader that dictates what they do and how they survive. There is often conflict that reflects the adult world through wars and political disagreements this is shown through mainly the characters of Jack and Ralph and teir often constant conflict between one another. The Lord of the Flies directly reflects society that we live in today because it isn't a perfect world, except a world full of corruption, dislike and murder. The boys hand out positions such as hunters and gatherers which is like jobs in the 'adult' world. Lord of the Flies acts as a microcosm to the adult world.
