Starting the design in the mid 1500s, Giorgio created scenes of the Last Judgement. When Vasari completed his design, it was finally painted by his student, Federico Zuccari, from 1572-1579. This was one of the final touches of the Cathedral as it started construction in 1296 and finished somewhere in the mid 15th century.

When it came to painting he applied this to all of his work. To complete his artwork he usually worked in teams filled with other artists and and assistants. His artwork was different to many other pieces of art. His paintings were seen as almost dull and colorless. They were described as facile and superficial. He was more known and better recognized as an architect rather than a painter because of his dull paintings.

The Medici family were a wealthy family that funded upcoming Renaissance artists. The Medici's were patrons of Vasari along with many other artists in that era.
