Compare and Contrast of the Graphs

The histogram charts are designed to be like a column chart. They can be very specific and are a good way to show the data. The box-and-whisker plot is harder to understand. It has a large box, with whiskers that extend off the main box. How far the whiskers extend depend upon the maximum and minimum numbers in the set (the largest and smallest numbers respectively). The line graph is exactly what it sounds like, a line. It has points to represent the data. Lastly, a pie chart is a round chart that depicts the data you have in percentages. It is easy to understand and show the data. It can be confusing when there is a lot of data to be added.

The histogram, line, and pie charts are the easiest to understand out of the four charts. The box-and-whisker plot is mostly unheard of and can be confusing to people who do not know how to read one. The histogram looks the cleanest of the four. It is best to use this type of graph when presenting data during a presentation. The pie chart, line graph, and box-and-whisker plot can look messy at times and not very presentable.

The mean is the average, or the central tendency. Our mean is 54.53. The median is the measure of the central tendency. Our median is 54. The five-number summary tells us the maximum, the first quartile, the median, the third quartile, and the minimum of the data. This is shown abo Nicole and I choose this data set because it had enough data to fill the requirement and it was something that was interesting to the two of us. The peak of the data was in the state Nevada, which had seventy percent of children not attending preschool. There were no gaps. There were a few clusters in these states: Alaska, Arizona, and Arkansas, California and Colorado, Florida, Georgia, and Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, and Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, and Nebraska, and Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. There were fewer outliers: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and North Dakota. Our graph is skewed to the left. The data is not very spread out; there are many clusters. The standard deviation is the measure of dispersion, which is 7.28. This shows that there is very little dispersion in our data. The histogram and pie charts show very clearly what states have what percentage of children not attending preschool. The box-and-whisker chart especially is lacking in a lot of areas. It does not clearly show any data besides the five-number summary; there is nothing specific. There is a mode; it is 60. The range is the dispersion subtracting from the mean. Our range is 43. The IQR or interquartile range examines the variance or standard deviation. I expected that the data would be more spread out. I also expected that the percentages would be lower than they were, that really surprised me. The graph that illustrates the data the best was the histogram. It looked the best and was easier to understand, unlike the other graphs. The other graphs were chaotic and messy.
