The use of Web 2.0 tools in the classroom allows teachers to boost engagement among their students and put technology in the students’ hands in an intentional way. The usage of Web 2.0 tools is a necessary part to adjust learners to the use of technology. Technological literacy is more important now more than ever as we continue to educate our students to be successful adults in the workforce (Dabbs, 2016). The following table introduces meaningful Web 2.0 tools, the URL to access it, the education level expected of students to use it, the content area it is best suited for, and Bloom’s Taxonomy Level that the tool supports. Animoto, Padlet, Actively Learn, FlipGrid, and Nearpod are all incredible resources to engage, support, accommodate, modify, and help teach content to ensure student success in the 21st century.

Padlet is an online forum and considered to be an easy accessible virtual bulletin board. The teacher can choose settings for how their Padlet is set up. Students can be given the chance to answer questions, solve equations, upload photos, and comment and like on other’s posts. In previous years, I have used Padlet in my classroom. For example, we did a whole class project to create our own coffee shop and I set up a Padlet to look like a website for students to write their own reviews of the coffee shop pretending to be customers. This was a fun way for students to be involved in the project and immediately see their work come to fruition.

Animoto is another tool that promotes creation for students. Students can create animated videos, engaging slides, and posters to model what they have learned from the class. This resource could be especially beneficial in English or Social Studies. For example, students can create a Black History Month presentation of a figure of their choice and use their creativity to present information. Students can also have the option to share their animations with their peers and collaborate on their work. All-in-all Animoto presents itself as a worthy resource to assist students to present their learned information in a creative presentation. (Kievlan, 2020).

Web 2.0 tools have proven to be an incredible addition to the classroom allowing students to collaborate and create among their peers in an engaging way. For students to be able to collaborate virtually with their classmates prepares them for many future scenarios both in academia and work where they will be required to do so. Students can get a feel for how to communicate virtually and give and take feedback from their peers. The ability to create something virtually allows students to access the creativity they have and also get an understanding for ways to capture their audience in an appealing opportunity
