At first no one suspected him because he made it so his first victim looked as if they committed suicide. And since most of his victims were lonely old women, suicide was a reasonable explanation for their death. But eventually he did get caught and was sentenced for life. However, he was soon killed after he was given that sentence.

DeSalvo used the rebellion when it comes to the strain theory. He could have continued in the war, but instead he wanted to do something else. He decided to rape and murder women. He did this by seeking out lonely women, which is why he got away with 13 murders.
His actions had a negative affect on society. While he was lose people, such as older women, lived in fear of the Boston Strangler. It also led to the death of innocent women so that's definitely a negative function on society.
