Altruism Oxford dictionary definition. "n. unselfish concern for the welfare of others" is this what the documentary is about? looking at it again I still wonder about the genuine reasons for the film, How many awards did it win? and how much recognition did the workers get. As the definition says Altruism is "a selfless act" was this a selfless act?

I haven't looked at the documentary yet but helping a community can sometimes cause resentment to some locals as they think the person helping is often sticking their nose in and "what would they know about us anyway" I have seen this many times in the village where I live the older generation think that outsiders are interfering and younger generation think the helpers are making them look like they don't know anything (country bumpkins) and are un educated. It is very hard to get a close- nit community to change or except change and especially if it is an generational community with very few outsiders, and some times the artist coming in can be egotistic and make the locals feel stupid and un-educated,but on the other hand there are genuine artist who only want to help and have to take the time to convince people no matter what age that they are there to help them,but they cannot take them out of their environment and then leave them to get on with things! and expect things to go back to normal.I am waiting for the documentary to down load and maybe this has no relevance to it, but I know from living in a small village that for an old community it is very hard to change opinions and see change, for the good or for the bad, and I think this should be considered before people consider doing it "for the welfare of others".

Jimmy leonard.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Hi Marie  I understand your fears about out side Artists coming into the area and perhaps manipulate the Community foe their own agenda.                                     However it seems that the lead Artist had come from a troubled community and over time his community became stable perhaps he thought he could create a change of sorts, it would have been interesting had he talked about that change. And the lead artist re-Film maker at least through his film reached a wider audience National and Inter= national so in a sense some good can come from it,It can also be said that by getting one of the local communities artist elected to the position of head of the Countries re-cycling gives a voice to his own area.Intentional or unintentional his area and as a hole the whole re-cycling regions now have a very clear voice now its down to how they manage this voice to say the least they can be a strong  lobby group or perhaps get into the political arena.
