Math does not have to be categorized into who is "a math person" and "who isn't a math person". Kids tend to get really anxious when the answer they get is wrong, or if they find an answer a different way. Implement things such as stories, alternate ways to solve, or open ended questions allowing for more creativity.

Implement little activities that can get people talking. Group exit tickets or open ended questions that require group work at the board. I liked the revoicing method. Here students repeat the lesson that was taught in a way the class can understand. If they can't do that, they may have not fully grasped the concept taught.

It’s important for students to be aware of the processes they are building as problem solvers. Provide validation, clear grading, and dedicate time to personally helping out students that are struggling.
