Read the story to the children.

Create our own ‘maps’ (pictures in chronological order) of the route that lucy travelled to get home.

Go on our own adventure around school grounds stopping at different places and doing a drawing (observation and sketching). Encourage conversation and communication about the areas we visit. What’s different? What can we see? What can we hear? Once they have their own map of our adventure they can use it to go back and try and follow it to find the way back to our classroom.

Get the children to make a map of the classroom to use for tidy up time, they can use the map to know where the toys belong and which area of the classroom they need to put things. They can also make a map of the different areas of the school to use for when the children need to visit other areas of the school.
