Today, "plastic" causes pollution and destruction of our environment. Most of them are burned to weed out our "ozone layer", causing floods and landslides, or even sea creatures. Plastic is made up of polymers. This is why many plastics begin with “poly,” such as polyethylene, polystyrene, and polypropylene. Polymers often are made of carbon and hydrogen and sometimes oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, chlorine, fluorine, phosphorous, or silicon. Polymer is a material that does not decay fast, that's why plastics take up 450 years to decompose.

Recycling is one of the ways to reduce plastic in the world. It makes new things and is used by people. However, not all recycled plastic are used and used so the "plastic pollution" in the world is not very much reduced.

Hollow blocks are used in building infrastructure and buildings in a country; it is usually made of sand and cement. Due to the rise of the Philippine economy, we have built many high-rise buildings so we keep on digging more and more sand, tendency is when it rains, it may cause flash floods. Hollow blocks and plastics have similarities: not easily broken, strong molecular bond, and effective heat insulator. What if we convert these similarities into something useful?

Given the proper materials and research, plastic can be a substitute to sand and cement. This research may help in a large scale in reducing plastic waste that may eventually lead helping the earth reduce its pollution and slowly fix the problems and mishaps we humans have caused. People working in the building business will benefit from this study since there is now an ergonomic substitute to locally produced hollow blocks and they can also contribute to the reduction of plastic waste in the world. Certainly, this project can be a world changer if given the proper guidance, research, time, and support.
