They were pretty much ambushed by some men that volunteered to protect their village and took the kids back to the men's village and were threatened to be drowned if they didn’t confess they were spies or the rebels and ended up getting  saved by a person that lived in the same village as the kids so they got set free and got to eat and offered a place to sleep but they didn’t stay they left because they knew the rebels would end up entering the village
 
Ishmael Beah included this in his memoir because he came to another near death experience with this village they said they were going to tie rocks to their feet and throw them in the river to drown because they thought they were either rebels or spies but they weren't and got let free and were fed food

While staying at that village they learn that Gibrilla's aunt is at a village thirty miles away from them. They travel to that village and in return for food and a place to stay they are appointed watchmen. For example, he included that people tried to hurt him on his journey because it was one of the consequences of civil war. Walking throughout a village he experienced being kidnapped by another group of men and were tied up. He talks about how much pain he was in and how restless him and his friends were throughout this whole chapter. It also says that the rebels came and that was when he got separated from his friends and it was the last time he saw his older brother. He was all alone and lost a loved one and had to worry if he would ever see his brother or friends ever again on top of everything else he experienced. I believe the things he has went through are very traumatic and it has completely changed his life around. It probably has changed his mindset and how he treats others as well. Some had heard rumors about young boys being forced by rebels to kill their families and burn their villages." 

We chose this quote because it shows the struggle they had because they were young and people didn't trust them 

 "A large crowd had gathered in the chief’s compound for our arrival. The huge men pushed us to the ground in front of them and tied our feet with strong ropes. Then our hands were pulled behind our backs until our elbows touched, making our chests tight from the pressure. I was in tears from the pain. I tried to roll on my back, but that made it even worse."

We chose this quote because it shows what they went through just from walking and their age and could've been killed 

 "Before the war, when I visited my grandmother during harvest season, the only thing she let me do was pour wine on the soil around the farm before harvest commenced, as part of a ceremony to thank the ancestors and the gods for providing fertile soil, healthy rice, and a successful farming year."
