What was your training experience like?

When Andy McTigue was talking, I was so impressed with how he just kept on going through the training without stopping.

How did Andy become a Navy SEAL?

The story Andy told us really amazed me on how he just listened to the officer without asking questions.

Q: Can you tell us about your favorite childhood memory?

A: My favorite childhood memory were the New York beaches.

Q: Once you arrived in Vietnam what were your roles?

A: My Roles were to kidnap the main men on the enemies side.

Q: When were you in the greatest danger?

A: When I was fueling a plane and this plane came and started sparking.

 I felt impact by this because how did he not fall sleep he persevered through it.

sneaking into enemy areas, finding out where the bad guys were hiding, and sometimes setting traps or surprising them.

Andy had to stay awake and keep going, even when he was super tired. He never gave up because he wanted to keep his team safe and finish their important missions. His bravery and determination is inspiring!

Andy McTigue told us that he didn't get provided any food. I also thought it was interesting that the military didn't provide him food so he needed to trade for food from a port.

What were your dreams or goals before the war?

Andy McTigue told us that he wanted to be a Dentist which was frowned apon if you were left handed. This was surprising to me because he had a dream not related to the Military or S.E.A.L at all!

What did you do in the years following the war?

Andy McTigue told us that he trained service dogs. This impacted us because it told me that he was helping even more than what he helped with in the war

These three questions impacted me because his answers were emotional and he put so many feelings into the conversation. I loved that he enjoyed talking to the children in Vietnam and he was also emotional during the end. When he started to tear up, I was affected by how he was answering and how grateful he was that he survived. He showed gratitude for all of the people that passed and him crying from the question impacted me.

Andy McTigue said that his favorite memory was about the children in the Vietnamese Village and how he spent time with them. He gave them toys to make them happy but instead, they were interested in American food and threw the toys. So Andy gave American food to the children and he was happy to see the kids happy. This impacted me because I had thought deeply about it and realized how much Andy cared for the children of Vietnam during the war and how much he always wanted to stay in the village even when he had to leave for war.

Please tell us about the story of how you joined the Navy Seals.

Andy answered that how he got in the Navy Seals was that he waited for days to go on a boat but he asked where it was when he did not see it. They told him that the boat went to Japan. Andy got on a plane to Japan, but he saw that the boat was not there, so he asked around and a man said that the boat went back to Vietnam. It took Andy 3 days to go to Japan and another 3 days back. When Andy got back, the boat had just left but Andy found out that the boat would come back in 4 days. Andy was walking around for days and he got bored so he saw a small building that said Navy Seals. Andy then said that he had heard about the Navy Seals but didn't know what they actually did. So he went inside and sat with a Colonel. He asked the Colonel what they did and the Colonel told him that they helped in wars. Andy said he was interested and the Colonel told Andy to come back at 6:00 in the morning. Andy said that he did not want to but the Colonel said that he had to go in an intimidating voice. Andy then made it there and had to swim in the water and do strokes. Right after that the Colonel told Andy to do one whole mile in less than 6 minutes, and Andy had to follow a man that looked like he was walking. Andy made it before the timer but right after that, he had to do 50 pushups and chin-ups. Right after that, theColonel told Andy that he was qualified to be a Navy Seal and that is how Andy became a Navy Seal.

Do you have any family members that also served in the military?

Andy said that a family member that had served in the military was his grandfather who served as a General. I was surprised how Andy’s family member would have a role like that so great and how Andy also became someone that also served in the military! This impacted me because Andy and his grandfather both served in the military and both had very important roles.

What were your dreams or goals before the war? Andy answered this question by talking about how he aspired to be a dentist before he served in the war. One reason that this impacted me was because I loved how Andy started a new dream for him when he didn't become a dentist.

Lastly, What was your life like as an 11, 12 year old? To this he answered that he used to and still enjoys swimming, and soccer. The reason I was invested in his answer was because it showed me how he was not only a Navy SEAL but a kid just like us once.

What were your dreams or goals before the war? He wanted to be a dentist, but he was left handed. That have impacted me because when I was at a really young age I wanted to become a dentist.

When were you in the greatest danger? How did you overcome fear? When his friends died from a booby trap and Andy McTigue was right in front of it. It has impacted me because Andy McTigue has got really lucky that he did not get injured too much. And it impacted me to see how lucky I am to be alive.

Andy Mctigue said he wanted to be a dentist. This impacted me because I used to be left handed too and if I were still left handed then I feel like I wouldn't be able to be my dream like how Andy Mctigue wasn't able to

Were there any happy or positive moments during the war?

Andy Mctigue said he had fun with the kids in Vietnam. I was impacted by his answer to this question because it makes me feel cool that he was able to experience stuff in Vietnam other than just fighting.

Can you tell us about your favorite childhood memory?

Andy Mctigue said he loved collecting butterflies as his hobby. This impacted me because right now, I too have a hobby I enjoy(collecting/building Gunpla) during my childhood(right now)

He was a good soldier and he talked about what happened in the war and how it felt.

The questions that were asked and he replied with made me ask if what would happen if something else than what happened was changed, would he never survived, would he be injured, that's what made me curious.

This question impacted me the most from how Andy McTigue answered because his answer showed me what he is grateful for and his love for Gratitude which impacted me.

What was your training experience like?

When he answered, I was amazed and impressed because he was able to go through all of that without giving up.

When were you in the greatest danger? How did you overcome fear?

His answer taught me how to overcome my biggest fears.

Answer 1: Andy said that his favorite childhood memory was when he would go down to his local beach and go in the water. But, he was at first afraid of the water, growing up to now love the water and be really terrific at swimming. This impacted me because it tells me that he was just brave enough one day to go into the water.

Question 2: What were your dreams or goals before the war?

Answer 2: According to Andy, when he was young, he wanted to be a dentist. Now he is a veteran. This impacted me because even though he dreamed of being a dentist, he became a veteran. But, he wasn't sad, he just let it be.

Question 3: What did you do in the years following the war?

Answer 3: Andy McTigue is so helpful. He stated "After the war, I decided to help out these guys (dogs) to become service dogs, who are ready to be owned." This affected me. He is so kind, training other dogs for others.

He said that he was born in New York. That is the big city in the United States. And his dream to be a dentist. He might be a rich person if he is a dentist. But he chose to serve the military during the Vietnam War.

When he was in the greatest danger, that is when he saw the bomb explode far from him by 30 feet. He was very scared. But he did overcome the fear by the brave.

This story impacted me for some reasons, when the war happened, everybody had to leave their countries. Some of them have to die or lose their family. Mr. Andy has the same situations as the people in the world. He has to quit his dream to be a dentist and leave his country and come to another country to serve in the Vietnam War. But now the war is finished. The people have a happy, peaceful, and safe life.

I want to say thanks to Mr. Andy McTigue for his righteousness. Patients and love the beloved people in the world like Vietnam, which is my country.

1. I have noticed that he talked about his love for swimming and that was his childhood memory. He said that he went to one of the beaches in New York and used to be scared of the water because of Horseshoe Crabs . Then, he started getting used to it and was able to swim very well.

What were your dreams or goals before the war?

2. He told us he wanted to become a dentist but he couldn't because he was left-handed. Back then, people that were left-handed weren't allowed because the tool tray was on the right side and since he was left-handed, he had to be really careful with the kids mouths. I loved the fact since he wasn't able to do his dream job, the job he wanted most, he was able to find another that impacted the whole country of the United States.

Finally, is there something from your experience of the Vietnam War you are grateful for? How has that Gratitude shaped you in the years since.

3. He said to us that he was grateful for making new friends during the practice for the war. Gratitude shaped him in the years since by being able to survive the war and making a business to train dogs. After training those dogs, he gives them to the military to use as a security dog.

#2 "What was your goal when you were younger?" He said that he wanted to be a dentist but couldn't because he was left handed. Then when he became a Navy Seal. This impacted me because of how he agreed to the different changes.

#3 "What was the hardest part of training?" he said the hardest part was training trying to stay awake. This surprised me on how he managed to keep his eye open the whole time.

Andy's father served in the military and was mad because he wanted Andy to join the military too, so Andy's brother joined his father.

Goals:

Before the war he had some goals. one of his goals was to become a dentist, but back in his day he was a left hander and and all the tools were on the right side, so he moved on to be Navy.

The second question is "What was your training experience? How did your training prepare you for your time in Vietnam?" also impact me because it shows that he had to train really hard and showing to not give up on the first try.

Lastly, the third question is "What was the hardest part of being a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War? How did you persevere?" It impacted me because he had to plan where to go which shows that you plan before moving like how different discisions can lead to different situations.

When Andy McTigue said that he actually wanted to become a dentist before the war I was quite surprised and wasn't really expecting that. As this impacted me as I wondered what would happen if he took a completely different path.

Question 2: What His Training Experiences Like?

When Andy Mctigue told us about his rough and intense training this made me surprised. As I knew training in the military was already intense but I wondered how he physically and mentally pushed through with barely any sleep. As I respect Andy for not giving up even though the training was insanely hard.

Question 3: What Types Of Missions Did Your Team Go On?

When Andy McTigue told us about when he would body snatch/kidnap people during late as 3 in the morning. This made me incredibly shocked as I didn't think that Andy would just straight up kidnap people for information. As I thought that Andy participated in the fights and battles.

A: When he said that he wanted to become a dentist, he heard that couldn't because he needed to be right handed or he had to be very precise, I also had that kind of event happen but I decided I should've been another job feeling the Affection he felt.

Q:Were there any happy or positive moments during the war? Can you tell us about them?

A: He said that we were the positive moments he said that he would stay up playing with kids younger than us, we were the reason he felt happy during the war. I felt the impact feeling because it is cute how we could have such a impact on him.

Q:What was your training experience like? How did your training prepare you for your time in Vietnam?

A: When he said that his training was very intense because he didn't get much sleep and had to run everywhere he went, I felt that I should be training way more because I feel that I am not fast enough to keep up with everyone making me feel that impact it had on me.

what did you do as being a seal team 1 member? What Andy did as being a seal team 1 member he would capture important people and try to get answer from the people who he had captured.

What did you do to get into seal team 1? What Andy had to do to get into seal team 1 is that he had to do swimming strokes, 50 pushups, 50 situps, and 50 chin ups to get into his actual training to get into seal team 1.

Furthermore, the question "what was your life like, what you were like, as an 11 or 12 year old?" This question especially caught my attention because I was pondering what was the life of Andy McTigue like in my age. Was he any different from kids from today. Did he have any special hobbies. For example, I never knew that Andy McTigue enjoyed swimming as a child. This detail gave me a better visualization of Andy McTigue's younger self.

Finally, the third question that interested me was "What were your dreams or goals before the war?" This question was an important question to me. Was he disappointed that he couldn't succeed with his job because of the Vietnam war? Or why was he interested in this job? What was his motivation to this job? Andy McTigue answering this question explained to me what his passion was before knowing that he was have to go through the Vietnam war. When I found out that, Andy McTigue desired to work as a dentist but could due to him being left handed showed me how Andy McTigue didn't give up despite that he could became a dentist.

Ultimately, the question about Andy McTigue's childhood interested me the most because I got to understand of the life of Andy McTigue before the Vietnam war.

Andy McTigue told us that his favorite hobby was to collect butterflies and display them in his home. That seemed strange to me because I feel like he would chop trees rather than collect butterflies during his childhood.

What was your favorite memory during the war?

Andy McTigue told us that his favorite memory during the war was playing with the children in Vietnam. This really fascinated me because even though he doesn't speak Vietnamese very well, he can still interact with the kids.

What were your dreams or goals before the war?

Andy McTigue told us that his dreams or goals were to be a dentist. He also told us that he was left handed and left handed people couldn't be dentist. That impacted me because why did you have to be right handed to be a dentist?

2) Someone asked " What is your family generation and history like?" He talked about his family. He said most of his family was in the military and some were even in the civil war. Some family members were also with him when he was in Viet Nam. This shows me that some of his family members had died in the war for us to win for our country. His family members that sacrificed their lives were making our lives better and are helping us with the war.

3) One of the helpers asked " What kinds of food did you eat?" His answer was very sad because he said he ate dogs in Viet Nam. I felt really sorry for those poor dogs and how he had to eat them. This is very sad because after the war he has and is trained dogs for a living now.

Conclusion) I think Andy McTigue is an amazing person and is very helpful in my life. He has helped us with the war and was willing to sacrifice his life to help in the military. He and his family generations are stars.

He stated that before deciding on joining the Navy, he wanted to become a dentist, but he couldn't because he was left-handed. This was a problem because back in the day people that were dominant in their left hand, they wouldn't be able to use the tools precisely. This amazed me because I was so impressed that he was able to remember something so small, but significant that would lead him to do something to make a bigger change.

What was the hardest part of being a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War?

Andy said that he had to go through harsh training in the Navy to help him adapt and persevere in Vietnam to fight. I was so impressed that he just kept on going on about the stories he told us during the war. Every little detail that he told us made me feel gratitude. I felt so thankful that I didn't have to go through something with the same level as something like this, but the most thankful thing that I felt was that the soldiers and veterans that would sacrifice everything to fight and protect the country.

Were there any happy or positive moments during the war?

Andy told us the little stories about the time in Vietnam. He said that some of his favorite moments are the little children that he met in the village he stayed in with his unit. The kids would bring him toys in exchange for American treats that he brought. Sometimes the kids would teach him some Vietnamese songs and he would also teach them songs. This was so heartwarming since he had some happy moments shining during a time of war.

What was your training experience like?

I was super suprised because he had to go through hell week where basically you can't sleep for the whole week. I was suprised because he didn't give up.

What were your dreams and goals before the war? This question impacted me because if it wasn't for what he said, I would think that I can't do something I like because of something with my body.

A: Favorite memories were the beaches in New York.

My opinion: This makes me intrigued because when he was a kid he had fun just like how we should have fun while we're in our childhood.

Q: What was the hardest part of being a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War? How did you persevere?

A: The hardest part was Hell Week and not falling asleep.

My opinion: This makes me want to sleep more and appreciate sleep like Andy said.

Q:What were your happiest moments during the Vietnam war?

A: You guys the children.

My opinion: When the kids came to him, Andy gave them toys but threw them on the floor and then asked where is the food? This is intriguing because I've never seen a kid not like a toy and want food. I guess it's because they have never seen American food before or haven't had lots of food in a while.

Andy said that before the war he had wanted to become a dentist but he couldn't because he was left-handed. He had said that if he wanted to be a dentist he had to be ambidextrous or very skilled with using his left hand.

Other family members who joined the military too?

Andy said that a lot of his family members joined the military too. His uncle was a general in the civil war and is recognized in a book. His father was also in the military and was because he didn't join his father so Andy's brother joined his father.

A: Andy's favorite memory is going to the beach and swimming.

How it impacted me: It impacted me because it shows that he liked having fun as a kid and we should also have fun during our childhood.

How it impacted me: Andy's answer impacted me by encouraging me to train more. I learned that we would come across many obstacles in life and training would help me a lot in the future.

How did your training prepare you for your time in Vietnam?

Hearing Andy's answer made me realize that I should always prepare to do something that I'm about to do.

During the assembly or interview, Andy McTigue had mentioned that when he was on the boat that had propeller planes and other kinds of planes land on it, he was just filling up a plane with gas. Then out of nowhere, when a propeller plane was making its landing, it had gotten so close to Andy that it was just 34 feet away from him. He was afraid that the propellers of the plane were about to kill him at that moment, and yet, Andy had stood there as he continued to refill the plane's gas tank. This may be the way Andy had overcome his fear of being killed, the way he had embraced the danger that was approaching him. Though either way, I admire his bravery although he had the possibility of being killed during the war.

A: This impacted me because when Andy told us about how he joined the Navy SEALS I realized how much work he went through to become one.

2) Can you tell us about your favorite childhood memory? His favorite childhood was swimming at the beach, collecting butterflies, and playing soccer. This impact me because now I was also his age and him saying he likes collecting different types of butterflies I like collecting different types of flowers.

But they didn't want any of those toys instead they liked to try the American food that he had. He gave the food to the kids to try and they loved the food. So when ever he had a chance he gave the food to the kids.

• Andy McTigue said that he wanted to become a dentist but he was left-handed. Andy instead became a soldier to fight for his country. This impacts me because whenever you can't be what you want to be, you can always choose another choice that you are good at.

• Andy McTigue said that he had an ancestor who fought in the war. This impacted me because I also had a grandpa who fought in the war but unfortunately, he

• I interpreted and learnt from Andy McTigue that things can change. He said that he wanted to become a dentist, but he ended up becoming a soldier. This impacts me because it helps me understand that whatever I decide isn't final, and that it's okay if I haven't decided (in this case, my career).

• I interpreted Andy's answer as something he found challenging, as anyone else would (not sleeping). He overcame the difficulties of his training. This inspires me to strive through life even when facing trouble.

3) Looking back, what lessons of trust and sacrifice would you most like us to learn from your time with us today?

• I interpreted Andy's answer (trust is very important) as a life long thing to remember. His answer left me thinking about trust, what makes someone trustworthy, and how valuable trust is. This has impacted how I communicate and act with my peers.

Andy had said that he wanted to become a dentist before he was part of the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, he could´nt be a dentist because he was left-handed, and most of those dentist jobs are all right-handed

Andy said that once he arrived in Vietnam, his roles (i am not done whith this)

A: This question impacted me because he told us that trust is the most important attribute for a friend/team and is super true cause they can betray you at any time.

1) The question that I was interested was

" How did your training prepare you for your time in Vietnam?" He never gave up during his training for the seals. He kept on during push ups and chin ups after the swim. He did not disobey the person that was in charge. This impacted me because he perseveres through the hardest challenges.

2) Andy McTigue's dreams before the war were to be a dentist. He thought that being a dentist was very cool. But, unfortunately he was not able to be a dentist because he was left-handed. Dentists had their tools on their right side of the patient and where the dentist would sit too. This impacted me because he wanted to pursue his dreams and he wasn't able to since he was left-handed.

3) The question " Do you have family members who also served in the military?" impacted me because he wanted to make his father proud. Andy's brother didn't want to join the military, so Andy sacrificed to make his father happy. He also liked his job too. Andy's relatives served in World War 2. This impacted me because my aunts and uncles are in the military too.

1.What was your training like? How did it prepare you for your time in Vietnam?

Andy McTigue talked about how hard he had to work. For example, hell week. He had to swim a few miles, do 100 jumping jacks, 50 push-ups, 50 chin-ups and run a few miles, all without taking a break. Andy did difficult workouts, practiced not sleeping, and body snatching. He showed me that sometimes you have to work hard for what you want.

Me hearing how Andy McTigue fought the war and did during those years, taught me how he served our army kidnapping people and waiting for the Ticonderoga. He said/taught me how to never give up and to always try.

2) Were there any happy or positive moments during the war?

Andy McTigue said that during his hard times he was still happy serving his country and being next to his friends. It taught me that during hard times you can never give up because you made progress and being happy is always better than being sad.

At one point he was really scared, when a bomb exploded 30 feet away from him, but he kept going by his brave.

Mr. Andy was also really sweet when he said he loved spending time and playing with the kids when he was in Vietnam.

When were you born? Where is your hometown? Andy McTigue was born in 1945 in New York City. That was a long time ago since Andy was born.

Can you tell us about your favorite childhood memory? Andy McTigue's favorite childhood memory is when he went to the beach. He has the fear of water, but he overcomes his fear and he becomes a very good swimmer.

•Andy Mctigue had dreamed about being a dentist, but became a soldier instead. I realized that not all things you hope or long for will happen. This made me a bit more hardworking to accomplish my goals. I feel very worried for the future.

What did you learn in the war that has served you during the rest of your life?

•I can now understand the importance of sleep and many other factors, like eating and staying hydrated because they are valuable to a human life. I also learned that there may be many lessons you can learn from life experiences. This makes me rethink the importance of things.

What was your life like, what were you like, as an 11 or 12 year old?

•I can see how many people do great things even at this age, or our ages at least. I feel like we should try to enjoy and try our best to accomplish great things within this year. I feel very humbled.

His Answer - He loved going for swims in the beach of New York City.

This impacted me because I can relate to fearing the creatures that live among the ocean water. But also, I loved that Andy persevered and eventually found a passion for swimming in the ocean.

Q - What were you dreams or goals before the war?

His Answer - He wanted to become a dentist. But he was left hand, so he had to have lots of training, practice, and be really careful. But he gave up on his dreams

Why did has impacted me? I fear dentists and going to the dentist. But I would support him if he wanted to become a dentist after the war.

Q - Once you arrived in Vietnam, what are were roles and responsibilities?

His answer - His job was to kidnap people in Vietnam in the middle of the night and bring them someplace to question them.

This impacted me because I thought you join the Military to fight in battles and wars, no kidnap people from Vietnam

Andy McTigue has a brother and a grandfather who served in the military.

What was your training like?

Andy McTigue had to run everywhere for 3-4 weeks. He had to not sleep for a whole week and swim 5 miles.

Andy McTigue talked about his generation of family. He told us that most of hi family members were in the military ever since the civil war. He even told us about his family member being with him during the war against North Vietnam.

HE talked to us about the word trust. He asked us if we knew what trust really means. HE told us trust is very big word, For example when told us about trading and he helped his friend and friend could trust him to lead him in the 5 mile swim.

When we asking him about his trading he told us a lot. First he told us that they had run around beach bunch of times and it would take 9 months finish training. Then he talked about hell weak and said they had swim for 5 miles staring and back,that is 10 miles of swimming right there.

When he said his brother it reminded me that my brother also wanted to go to the military when he reached 19 years old, but about 4 months ago, he got a girlfriend, so he changed his mind and planned to go to university and go to the gym instead of going the military after collage.

Were there any happy or positive moments during the war?  Can you tell us about them?

He said children and I remember about have my first friend after 5 years after being born, the reason was I only have one friend that is my dog and I can get other kids to be friends was that I was nervous.

What were your dreams or goals before the war?

A doctor is crazy because he just wanted to be a doctor, but he went to a center and trained for months and he got drafted into a SEAL team.

He wanted to be a dentist but he was a lefty and all the tools were right handed so he never gave up and he ended as a SEAL!

What was your training experience like? How did your training prepare you for your time in Vietnam

Learning about the intense training of such an elite unit. It is a great example of how experiences are hard to overcome tough challenges can build bonds and teamwork.

What was the hardest part of being a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War? How did you persevere

His ability to stay strong in danger is inspiring. It pushes me to overcome life's challenges.

A: Andy McTigue said that his favorite memory is swimming at the beach.

Q: What were your dream or goals before the war?

A: Andy McTigue said that he wanted to be a dentist or doctor.

Q: Do you have family members who also served in the military?

A: Andy McTigue said Yes(It was his dad and the brother).

Andy answered that and he said that the kids was the best thing in the war. That interpreted me that he actually cared about those kids.

Someone asked Andy about how he came to the military.

He said that he was sent to a ship, but he when he arrived to Japan (where the ship was suppose to be) then people around there said that the ship was in the Philippines. When he arrived in the Philippines, they said it will be in Japan. So he had to come back. It showed that you needed patience to do something that you wanted to.

3) When were you in the greatest danger? How did you overcome fear?

Andy explained that he could of die. But he didn't really fight back or anything. Moments later nothing really happened to him.

1.What was your training like? How did it prepare you for your time in Vietnam?

Andy McTigue talked about how hard he had to work. For example, hell week. He had to swim a few miles, do 100 jumping jacks, 50 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, 50 chin-ups and run a few miles, all without taking a break. Andy did difficult workouts, practiced not sleeping, and body snatching. He showed me that sometimes you have to work hard for what you want.

2.What were your dreams and goals before the war?

Andy talked about how he wanted to be a dentist. The only problem was that he was left-handed. The trays in the dentist's office are always on the right side, so being left-handed would be a problem. This made me realize that you can't always be what you want.

3.Looking back, what lessons of trust and sacrifice would you most like us to learn from your time with us today?

Andy's answer made me wonder what trust really meant.

2. Another question that impacted me was the question, "What were your dreams or goals before the war?" This impacted the way I see a long time ago. Mr. McTigue said he wanted to be a dentist but was discouraged because he was left-handed. This shows the difference because now left-handed dentists are much more supported than they were back then.

3. The question, "Looking back, what lessons of trust and sacrifice would you most like us to learn from your time with us today?" This absolutely impacted how I see the world. Andy McTigue said that trust is a really strong word and trust is if you could really trust somebody. It made me and a whole lot of others think about what trust really mean.

Can you please tell us about how many family members in your military base, did they served you Andy McTigue. So Andy McTigue tell us about training in the Vietnam war, he trained lots of military people. He also helped people in the war and sacrificed for us. He told us in the MPR he kidnap people and chose the judge's decision.

Q1: "Were there any happy or positive moments during the war? Can you tell us about them?"

A1: Andy told us that during the war, he had lived in a village with a total of 30 Vietnamese soldiers, in that village the soldiers had wives, and most importantly, kids. These kids were military kids, meaning, they didn't get to see their father often. So, Andy would often come play with them. The smile the kids gave him, gave him happiness. These kids would keep him happy and they could keep him sane. I understand this, I understand that only such a little thing could keep him happy. We as people have all something that we are all grateful for, small or big.

Q2: "What were your emotions when the war ended? What happened to you next?"

A2: Andy told us, with a military schedule, every six months he would take a break for a year. But since he was stationed in the side of the country that would be victorious in 1950 he felt like he hadn’t done enough. He believed he didn't contribute enough to the side that was fighting for freedom—an American ideal, something known and cherished about America. However, they lost the war, leading to the fall of Saigon, which succumbed to communism under a single leader. Still, Andy wished to return—to the war, but for what purpose? His only reason was to restore people's freedom and see a healthy East Asia flourish once more.

I believe that if we had won the war in 1950, our country and culture would be far more abundant and meaningful, resulting in a beautiful East Asian nation. I’m not saying it isn’t beautiful now, but because of the conflict between the North and South, Vietnamese culture has been less impactful than it could have been.

Q3: "What did you do in the years following the war?"

A3: You might not believe it, but Andy McTigue, in his time, now owns a business! He runs a non-profit organization that trains dogs to become service animals for disabled war veterans.

Q4: "Finally, is there something from your experience of the Vietnam War that you are grateful for? How has that gratitude shaped you in the years since?"

A4: Andy McTigue was influenced by the sake of the place of position he was as a Navy SEAL in the Vietnam war. He said that he was grateful for all of us. But I think we should be grateful for him instead for fighting for us when we couldn't.

In conclusion, Andy McTigue will live on in our hearts, forever. Thank you for serving us.

Andy McTigue was asked this question first (By me!), and he said it was New York City. I was amazed about how he just recited perfectly all these stories about being in NYC from his childhood, even though they were quite a long time ago.

2. Roles & Responsibilities

Andy McTigue was a veteran of the Navy Seals, team ONE. But it's quite cool how he got it. He wanted to go on the Ticonderoga boat, but it wasn't there. We heard the story, but I'm quite impressed. He swims all the way perfectly. He gets down when asked and does 50 pushups and 50 chinups. He ran a MILE! And he did this all in a day, which in my eyes is amazing

3. Lessons of Trust & Sacrifice

Andy McTigue was talking about trust and sacrifice, and I think he said a perfect example and everything. He said that you should always have trust, and make sure your people can be trustworthy. His example was about a group project and all, but that's a grade. In the real world, stuff like this could be seriously bad for you and them, so it's a really good lesson & example he told us.

Andy replied with hanging out with children. This really impacted me because it showed how much Andy really cared for these small children. He is very kind.

( What were your dreams or goals before the war?) This question impacted me because his answer made me realize that anything or anyone can make you feel bad about what you are dreaming about or making you give up the dream/ goal you really want to succeed. Anything people say or do can change your perspective about everything.

( Were there any happy or positive moments during the war ? Can you tell us about them ?) Andy McTigue's answer Made me feel joyful and courage. It made me feel this way because kids back then they knew what they were going through. But Andy no matter what, he made them feel safe and happy. He explained, that he brought toys to play with the kids, It helped made me realize that no matter what position you are in, you have to always be happy.

( What were your emotions when the war ended ? What happened to you next?) The response that Andy gave had me sad because after the war, he flew to Washington and saw all of partners, friends, etc... be appreciated by making a wall of each one of the Navy Seal's names who sadly passed away during the war. His response changed my perspective and realized that everyone has to be thanked and appreciated for everything they do for us .

2. Second question what was your goal before the war. It was being a dentist but he was left handed and at that time it was much harder to be a dentist at that time.

   3. Andy McTigue's training for the war. One of them was he had to stay awake for a whole day and if he went to sleep he would get a bucket of water dumped on his head.

Answer 1- Andy McTigue said that during his training times, there was a week called "Hell Week". In that week they would use loud fake guns that would prevent the soldiers from sleeping. They would do that for the soldiers to get used to and adapt to that situation in the Vietnam war to be able to focus and concentrate in case any predators would try targeting them/ the soldiers, they would be alerted and would have a higher percentage of chance that they would be able to survive the attack.

How it impacted me- This impacted me because I learned that sleep could be extremely valuable to the human body.

question 2- Can you tell us about your favorite childhood memories?

Answer 2-Andy McTigue said that as a kid, he was scared of what creatures were in the water, so he was scared of going and swimming in the water. After that, he said that over time, when he grew up, he started to overcome the phobia/ fear of what was in the water by becoming braver.

How it impacted me-This answer by Andy McTigue impacted me because Andy McTigue found a way of becoming braver and overcame his fear for what was in the ocean/ water.

question 3- Were there any happy or positive moments during the war? Can you tell us about them?

Answer 3- Andy McTigue said that he would visit children and would have fun playing with them. Andy McTigue also said that he would buy toys for the children and bring the toys that he brought to them.

How it impacted me-This answer by Andy McTigue impacted me because he found a way to find happiness and to enjoy his time in Vietnam while also finding a way to also make the children there be happy and smile too.

This impacted me because Andy dreamed of being a dentist, but lost hope because he was left-handed, and the dentist tools were built for right-handed people.

This impacted me because it truly showed the rigorous training soldiers truly go through.

This impacted me because Andy explained his enjoyment with the young kids in Vietnam while learning their culture and what they did.

Andy's answer impacted me deeper than the other questions. The way Andy explained to us how deep trust can be really opened up my perspective. If Andy didn't trust his members, who knows what could've happened? His response truly let me get a full grasp on the concept of trust, its impact, and what it truly means

What I heard from Andy’s answer is that he went through lots of hardship to be apart of the war. For example, he told us about how from Sunday to Saturday he had 0 hours of sleep and just had to train during those 6 days. This impacted me because it makes me realize how hard Andy had worked to train for the war.

Andy’s answer told me how much he cares about children and what a wonderful person he is even during the war. His answer impacted me because it told me that you can still have happy moments even during hardship.

When were your dreams or goals before the war?

When Andy gave his answer, he told me that when he was a kid he wanted to be a dentist but couldn’t because during his time because, if you were left handed you couldn’t become a dentist. This impacted me because it made me realize how grateful I should be because you can have more opportunities now than before.

1. Question: Once you arrived in Vietnam, what were your roles and responsibilities? How many men served in your unit? Were you in charge? What type of mission did your team go on?

He said that his team’s job was kidnapping, which surprised me, because I didn’t know that people kidnapped other people in the Vietnam war, and I didn’t know that there was a whole team that was put together to do that job, so it really surprised me. It surprised me in a different way as well, because I thought he was in actual battle like what you see in the movies where they land in the enemy territory from a helicopter, but in reality, his team just waited in the bushes from 10:00 pm to 3:00 am, because according to what he said, nobody would be awake at 3:00 am. People would stay up until 1:00

2. Question: We have been told you are a member of Navy SEAL Team One. Please tell us the story of how and why you joined the military and how you became a Navy Seal.

He told us a funny story on how he joined. He said that he was assigned to the USS Ticonderoga, and that he had to go to the Philippines. He said that he went into a village, and that the villagers said that the Ticonderoga is in Japan. He goes to Japan and the villagers say that the Ticonderoga left and is heading toward the Philippines, and so he went back to the Philippines. Then, the villagers said that the Ticonderoga wouldn’t be back until 4 or 5 days. He was bored, and then found a little shack. He was recruited into the Seals team after a mental and physical test. The story was funny, and he added a type of comedy feel, like when he did the voices for the villagers, he did their proper Japanese and Filipino accents in kind of a funny way, but it also provided me with info on how difficult it is to just get recruited into the Navy Seals

3. Question: Were there any happy or positive moments during the war? Can you tell us about them?

He said that the most positive moments during the war were the children. He played games with the children while they were in the village while everyone else was sleeping. He also said that this kept him sane and happy, so that he could stay alive in Vietnam and talk to us kids. This surprised me, because I usually thought that all the kids had moved out of Vietnam already, and that they immigrate to America.

Andy McTigue said that his favorite memory was about the children in the Vietnamese Village and how he spent time with them. He gave them toys to make them happy but instead, they were interested in American food and threw the toys. So Andy gave American food to the children and he was happy to see the kids happy. This impacted me because I had thought deeply about it and realized how much Andy cared for the children of Vietnam during the war and how much he always wanted to stay in the village even when he had to leave for war.

Please tell us about the story of how you joined the Navy Seals.

Andy answered that how he got in the Navy Seals was that he waited for days to go on a boat but he asked where it was when he did not see it. They told him that the boat went to Japan. Andy got on a plane to Japan, but he saw that the boat was not there, so he asked around and a man said that the boat went back to Vietnam. It took Andy 3 days to go to Japan and another 3 days back. When Andy got back, the boat had just left but Andy found out that the boat would come back in 4 days. Andy was walking around for days and he got bored so he saw a small building that said Navy Seals. Andy then said that he had heard about the Navy Seals but didn't know what they actually did. So he went inside and sat with a Colonel. He asked the Colonel what they did and the Colonel told him that they helped in wars. Andy said he was interested and the Colonel told Andy to come back at 6:00 in the morning. Andy said that he did not want to but the Colonel said that he had to go in an intimidating voice. Andy then made it there and had to swim in the water and do strokes. Right after that the Colonel told Andy to do one whole mile in less than 6 minutes, and Andy had to follow a man that looked like he was walking. Andy made it before the timer but right after that, he had to do 50 pushups and chin-ups. Right after that, the Colonel told Andy that he was qualified to be a Navy Seal and that is how Andy became a Navy Seal.

Do you have any family members that also served in the military?

Andy said that a family member that had served in the military was his grandfather who served as a General. I was surprised how Andy’s family member would have a role like that so great and how Andy also became someone that also served in the military! This impacted me because Andy and his grandfather both served in the military and both had very important roles.
