Higher and more prestigious degrees allow for more diverse and well-paying jobs. For example, if one has only a high school degree, they would only have a limited number of job opportunities. If one has a bachelor's degree in economics, they would have many opportunities in the sales business. If one has a degree as a doctor, they would have, most likely, have lots of job opportunities and well-paying occupations. Being in the work-force may allow for vocational jobs, but it won't allow for the more educated and prestigious occupations.
