 “If you are on social media, and you are not learning, not laughing, not being inspired or not networking, then you are using it wrong” (Kent, 2015) Through this module and the tasks that we have completed in E-Portfolio 1 and 2, I have amassed a number of new digital skills that support me in my journey of becoming a better digital citizen as well as in creating and controlling my digital presence. Learning, understanding and being able to utilise these tools responsibly and safely is an important aspect of digital citizenship (Lauricella et al., 2020). This module have equipped me well to respond to new possible challenges that I might come across in the digitalised world. Following Kent, I suggest that users should utilise social media and different digital tools to their benefit psychologically, emotionally, educationally and professionally, as we have the possibility to do so. 

When this module started in the beginning of the year, I had no idea that through the learning activities in this module, I would be expanding my knowledge and skills as a digital citizen so extensively. The use of Padlet for this portfolio has supported me in developing organising skills. Competing digital tasks, reflecting back to the learning experience and recording the feelings that arose from that experience in an organised manner, has been extremely beneficial. According to Vreeswijk (2021) developing your digital organising skills can increase control over your online presence that in return helps to reduce stress, increase focus, and grant a sense of accomplishment. In addition to further developing my organising skills online, I have learned to use and benefit from all the different applications and tools that we have used in this module. Fulton and McGuinness (2016) argue that learning how to use e-tools has several beneficial outcomes, such as facilitation of participation in the workplace, efficient process of information and overall development as a digital citizen. Tools and platforms such as Pocket, My Maps, LinkedIn and Canva were completely new to me and it was an exciting and insightful experience to learn how to utilise these tools and create my own content. 

Possessing a strong digital presence requires being active online (Dutta, 2010) and learning how to produce my own content is an impactful step towards this goal. Creating an infograph with Canva turned out to be a surprisingly fun experience. I was a bit concerned before starting this task, as I have very little experience of creating visual content online. However, it was an educational experience and extremely important for the development of my professional skills. Lectures, readings and quizzes on Brightspace have helped me to expand my knowledge on content creating and publishing, online communication, digital literacy and safety which I have ultimately used for completing the tasks for both of the E-Portfolios. One of the tasks; singing up to LinkedIn and creating a profile as well as starting to build my network, has been a crucial kickstart to the development of my online presence. Davis et al.’s (2020) study on LinkedIn shows that networking online has been linked to wide variety of job advantages. Additionally, Reynolds (2018) emphasizes LinkedIn’s affect on learning new things and sharing ideas, as well as on finding motivation. Exploring different companies and employers on LinkedIn has boosted my motivation for job seeking.

Creating my own privacy policy for Tiktok was one of the biggest challenges in E-Portfolio 2. The reason for this is that prior to these learning experiences, I had no knowledge what a privacy policy should include, and how much data safety truly matters in the contemporary climate. Through this task I have gained deeper knowledge of privacy issues and the importance of data and online safety. Moreover, this task further strengthened my digital literacy skills.

After submitting my reflection to PeerScholar, I got very constructive and helpful feedback from two of my peers. They empasized proofreading the reflection before submitting it, as well as adding more information about my learning experience. With the help of this feedback, I proofread my reflection for grammatical errors, trimmed it down and reflected more on my learning throughout this module.

As outlined in my infograph, my personal digital strategy for online presence includes: being active and creating content, paying attention to privacy policies, further developing of ethical communication, and networking on LinkedIn. This module has supported me in forming a strong online presence by allowing me to learn, gain knowledge, use and utilise, create, and communicate content through the several different tools presented in this module.
