Avril Blair, the third and last of the Blair kids, is conceived.

Eric Arthur Blair receives the nom de plume George Orwell, consolidating the names of the then-ruler and a close-by waterway. Soon after he distributes his first book, a story of his tramp-like presence in Europe entitled Down and Out in Paris and London

Orwell's first novel, Burmese Days, is distributed. The book is a severe portrayal of preference and defilement in royal Burma and depends on his encounters there.
