4.6 billion years ago Earth's atmosphere had barely develop. The atmosphere started to form from mainly from gases spewed from volcanoes. Most of the gases were toxic. After about half a billion years the Earth’s surface cooled and water started to collect on it.

There was no oxygen on Earth that wasn't in the compound of water. Methane droplets were in the air and covered the Earth in a haze because of it. Simple living organism did not need oxygen to live and could make energy out of sulfur and other elements. Cyanobacteria, about 2.7 billion years ago helped develop the Earth's atmosphere by doing photosynthesis.

As more oxygen started to form on Earth from the plants, great forest began to take form on Earth's surface and swamps. The world became cooler because great masses of dead plants became buried under swamps and out of contact with oxygen, with lead to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to drop. Fossil fuels formed during this time that we still use to this day. This period started off as hot, then got cooler as it progressed, allowing ice glaciers to form.
