We are really looking forward to welcoming our young people to  the Monifieth Learning Campus tomorrow morning.  Our staff and team have been working exceptionally hard to get the classrooms and learning spaces ready for our learners.  

I've attached a map of  the school and in the first three periods all young people will get a tour of our new building.  Also, a timetable and a little sneak preview video.

• No drop offs at the school unless needed for accessibility- please drop off in the streets nearby. 

• The main entrance for pupils is Wemyss Crescent.  Staff will direct the correct way.

          -S1/ S6 will be directed to the main entrance and make there way to the auditorium.  

• S2-S5 all pupils will meet at the back playground- infront of the rugby pitch and stand in the form class

• Periods 1-3: classes will be with their form tutors- this will include a tour, timetables issued, guidance teacher check in

• Morning breaks are a little later- 11.05-11.30 for S1-S3

We believe it is crucial to have a wide representation of young people’s experience with ADHD and that is why are contacting schools in the area of Angus Council to ask if it would be possible to share the study poster. 

About the project:  

The study aims to learn more about how daily life experiences - like stress, anxiety, peer relationships, physical activity, and emotional regulation - impact the mental health of young people with ADHD. The insights from this research will inform the development of future health interventions to better support young people with ADHD beyond pharmacological treatments.

Pupils, parents and carers should read course descriptions carefully and watch the course videos that have been prepared by our teachers before selecting a particular course. In Monifieth High School we actively encouraged our young people to take the subjects/courses where they are achieving the greatest success.

​Young people who are considering moving on to university after school should consult each university’s prospectus for entrance requirements.  Entrance is usually based on the number and quality of Higher passes, with many courses specifying specific subjects to be taken at Higher.

​Please note that no course can be guaranteed - the availability of courses depends upon staffing levels and pupil uptake which change on a yearly basis.

Vaccines for Young People in 2026

Vaccinations will be starting across Scotland for young people in secondary school. All young people in S1 and S3 are offered the HPV, MenACWY and DTP vaccines which protect them against serious diseases, such as meningitis and different cancers. 

These vaccines are usually delivered in schools between January and April. Young people who are educated at home or not in mainstream school are also eligible, and can speak to their local NHS immunisation team to arrange a vaccination. To help teachers and school staff, an information sheet with more information about these vaccinations is available. 

In addition, a suite of assets are available to support local delivery and encourage uptake. This includes a new ‘what to expect on vaccination day’ video which can be downloaded to be shown in classrooms and assemblies, or used on your social media channels. The video has been co-produced with young people to show what it’s like to get vaccinated in school. It aims to inform and address some of the key questions young people may have about vaccination day. The videos are also available on YouTube as a long version and a short version.

A range of resources are available on the PHS website for you to access or download including the informed consent leaflets, posters and videos.

Chat.Sign.Protect campaign resources are also available on the PHS Marketing Resource Centre. This includes a social media toolkit with assets and captions to share across your social media channels as well as email, SMS and website templates for use within school communities.

YVS is open to young people aged 12-17 and has a set syllabus involving three phases, each phase takes approximately one year to complete. We have space for up to 20 young people. YVS will be free to attend, uniform and PPE will be provided. Please submit your note of interest by Wednesday 8^th April.

Speakeasy is a free NHS Tayside programme for parents and carers, designed to encourage positive communication with children and young people about all aspects of growing up, relationships and sexual health. Sessions are delivered in any community setting with targeted groups such as foster carers, young parents and families of children with additional support needs.

Within the menu, you will find a variety of free sessions for parents and carers of children of any age. This includes Culture and Influences, What Children Need to Know, Answering Difficult Questions and Useful Resources, The Online World, Puberty, Contraception and Sexually Transmitted Infections and The Role of the School. Holy Trinity Church in Monifieth runs a monthly community lunch where soup and sandwiches are provided free of charge for local residents. The lunch is very well attended and the church is currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to give a couple of hours, one Saturday each month, to help with preparing and serving the food.

The definition of a heatwave in Scotland is when a location records at least three consecutive days with maximum temperatures above 25°C, however, impacts from heat can be felt for periods shorter than this. The Met Office provides further details and advice:

Climate change is causing extremes in temperatures that we are unaccustomed to in Scotland, and the consequences that WSS are concerned about is how people may cool down in the hot weather.

Reservoirs, rivers and lochs might appear inviting for a quick cool down but there are many hidden dangers such as strong currents and cold water shock with consequences that can be fatal.

Key message:

Heatwaves and warm weather can be a critical issue for water safety in the summer as the warm air temperature can entice people to submerge themselves in water to cool down. This summer, we are running a series of exciting Holiday Camps packed with dance, cheerleading, games, crafts, team challenges, and lots of fun. The camps are open to both current members and children who have never danced before, making them a fantastic holiday activity for local families.

ANGUSalive's Countryside Adventure team is offering a fantastic programmed of Summer Adventure Camps at Monikie Country Park for children and young people aged 8 – 15 years.

Packed with paddlesports, bushcraft, team challenges and outdoor adventures, the camps provide the perfect opportunity for young people to build confidence, learn new skills, make friends and create lasting memories in a safe and supportive environment.

Full Day Adventure Camps - A full day of outdoor fun featuring a variety of water and land-based activities led by qualified instructors.

Half Day Adventure Camps - Perfect for younger adventurers or those looking for a shorter session, with morning and afternoon camps available.

Inclusive Adventure Camps - Designed specifically for children and young people with disabilities and additional support needs, these free afternoon sessions offer opportunities to enjoy activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding and bushcraft in an inclusive and supportive environment.

All activities are delivered by experienced and fully qualified instructors, with programmed designed to encourage participation, confidence building and a love of the outdoors.
