The U.S. uses mass media as their most frequent tactic because anyone can get ahold of the information whether it's through magazines, radio, television, the internet, etc. Through the media, people can have a better understanding of things from the government that may have been confusing. When it comes to media and government, the media doesn't exactly post everything in their stories because sometimes they are asked to keep things "off the record". The government also uses the media "to their advantage to convey information and gain support for their proposals" (McGraw-Hill). When media broadcasts has to do with the government, the government can control what goes out there. There are multiple ways the government uses the media to get out their information. They use press conferences, they leak information, they have media events, etc. More than anything, they use television because they can use commercials, but they also need to be able to perform well in front of a camera. Overall, every branch of the government takes advantage of the use of media.

How do the internet and social media affect the U.S. political process?

One of the biggest tactics politics use is social media and the internet because it is the fastest way to spread information. The government can also place information and services for citizens to access to resolve issues such as "property tax bills, get forms for marriage licenses, find town board meeting times, pay parking tickets, or report abandoned cars or illegal dumping" (McGraw-Hill). People can also use media to speak about how they feel on government issues. There are smaller uses of media that the government uses as well, which includes the use of electronic voting machines. The more technology grows, the more use it is within the government, and the interaction between the government and the people.
