"Being Happy"

It may be the most overused and repeated birthday wish and prayer ever said, screamed, whispered, or thought of in the universe. We all grew up in an environment with humans endlessly chasing happiness everywhere that they end up looking like dogs chasing its own tail. What we don't always realize is that happiness is within us. Every special person, every material thing, every luxurious possession, and every magnificent place that could give us happiness, we could give ourselves. We are the sole provider and thief of our own happiness because no one and nothing could ever take that away from us if we don't give them permission in the first place.

Isn't it easier to leave everything to fate and just let our lives run its own course? Filipinos often say, "Bahala na si Batman.", either because we are not courageous enough to run after what we desire the most or we are plainly unwilling to risk losing what we had high hopes for. Happiness is often mistaken as something that arrives because of fate alone. However, as I have journeyed through life as a young and an adulting lady, I've grown to realize that happiness only exists when we maneuver our lives through it, not towards it. We must keep in mind that happiness isn't an end game, not a final destination, and not a finish line. It is an experience that we must continuously welcome with open arms and willfully accept when it temporarily disappears.

"Being happy is not inevitable fate, but a victory for those who can travel towards it with your own being."

Treat each waking morning as a new opportunity to seek happiness even in the little things. We must understand that although happiness doesn't stay permanently, the presence of pain will generate into joy once we've whole-heartedly accepted the lesson it brings into our lives. One of the Bible verses I live by is from the book of Romans 8:18 where it says, "Your present sufferings are not worth comparing to the Glory that will be revealed to you." It is such a beautiful reminder for us to go through sufferings, challenges, and pain because, in the end, it will all be worth just a speck of dust compared to the happiness that we will have. Let us set the routes of our lives as a travel journey of our own actions, thoughts. decisions, and words that result in authentic and unfeigned happiness.

Have a great day! I hope you may find joy in the little things today. :)
