         <description><![CDATA[<p><span>&nbsp; In 1843, prior to the completion of another work, Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatory of Music and became its director. The conservatory was housed in a two-story building which the town council had newly constructed in the courtyard of the Gewandhaus. By the summer, there were over forty students that attended. </span></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In 1845 he returns to the post of conductor of the Gewandhaus concerts at Leipzig and teaches the piano and composition at the Conservatory there. A couple years later his sister Fanny died leaving him devastated and he began to deteriorate rapidly. The two were close and she had also composed and played the piano. Mendelssohn died on November 4, 1847 at the age of 38 in Leipzig, Germany. His cause of death was a ruptured blood vessel.</p>]]></description>
