In Quarantine there are a lot of problems inside the school besides just the infection that they all have. What is probably the biggest problem are gang wars. After the the students got this infection and they were quarantined they formed gangs for protection. They formed gangs so that they could get more food and feed themselves. The gangs are the Nerds, Varsity, The Pretty Ones, Skaters, Geeks, and the Freeks.

Gang warfare is the biggest problem in this novel. It Is what gets most of the students killed, even more than the infection they all have. Gangs have their own territory and if another gang came on their territory it would be war. Some gangs even make traps that will kill intruders. The Nerds protect the front entrance to the library with traps and in the novel it says, "deadly traps that mangled raiders." In this high school it is very dangerous to even go outside your territory because of gangs.

In the novel, Quarantine, there are a couple prominent themes. One theme is that there is safety in numbers. At the start of the novel when they are quarantined in the high school the students start to form gangs for not only safety but to get supplies easier. The novel says, "Everyone was already forming little groups of their own" (Thomas 42). This is the main theme of the book with the repeated occurrence of gangs in the novel, the talk of how important they are for an individual, and the fights that break out between the gangs.

The book Quarantine can teach you a lot and can broaden your prospective about different things. One thing that you can take away from it the importance of a team and the importance of friends. In this book there are gangs and if you are not part of a gang then your chances of surviving in the school are significantly lower. without a gang you are called a "scrap", which is someone without a gang. When David (the main character) was a scrap there were scraps who wanted him as a leader, to lead their gang of scraps. He ended up leading them into a fight and against all odds they came out victorious. "David led hid gang off the quad. No one blocked their path. He saw awestruck grins and nods of begrudging respect from the other gangs," (Thomas 170) is how the book describes the gang of scraps walking off the quad and the reaction of the other students
