I'm not a teacher yet, but I see the teachers I work with everyday and see that they are already feeling over-worked, understaffed and catching negativity in many areas that they cannot control. In the summertime I keep my phone with me, but only in case someone needs to get a hold of me. During the school year, I use my phone for work purposes.

This was not a surprise at all. I'm a nurturer. I gently encourage those I teach to do better, be better, and I take into account what their abilities are when I'm planning activities. I don't really rely on social references because I don't typically deal with older kids who require more consistency there. I do value developmental abilities though, but I don't push hard on what their abilities are as I don't want a child to feel they cannot do something. I want them to feel empowered to keep trying until they figure it out.

A large majority of the rules are centered around etiquette. You don't have to follow every single rule, but take what makes sense or take what you need out of the lessons.

I like to try to keep everything simple. I have a family of 6 and if everyone has their own *insert item*, then that's 6 of that item I need to keep track of. I don't really look for apps for myself, but if any of my kids need help with something they are struggling with at school, I try to find an app that will help them understand. My kids learn through passive teaching; meaning I cannot directly teach them or they think I don't know what I'm talking about. Yet if I have an app or a video running in the background, and they learn something, I'm one of the first people they come running to to tell me what they learned. I'm likely going to grab some Preschool Prep Co apps to help my daughter learn how to read. She is in French Immersion but is ready to learn in English so we are slowly introducing her to learning how to read in English. She prefers repetition, games and visual aids to learn. Perfect match I think since these apps repeat the heck out of everything and its a visual and auditory app.

And let's not forget about about how there are tools that are more distracting than helpful.

I came across Bored Teachers a little over a year ago. I was frustrated with my schooling, and my kids' schooling and teachers in general. This is a group of teachers who do a bunch of satire comedy related to teaching, as well as being empathetic and sympathetic towards what teachers go though on a daily basis. They are based out of the States, so their curriculum and expectations are on a different level than ours, but the ideas are similar. Sometimes we as educators need to feel like we are understood in some way, and these guys totally understand, and make a lot of situations light hearted.

These guys are based in the UK, but education resources in many areas of the world are still applicable or useful where we are. Sometimes they have a different way of teaching a lesson or topic that will resonate with your class more than a homegrown method. I am constantly on the lookout for new ideas, and if they happen to come from the UK, I'm still for it because their teaching methods are older than ours. The UK and Australia I have found lately are really great places to find quality resources.

She teachers others about mental health and things like ADHD, autism and other neurodiverse topics. We as educators need to know that we need to see signs and symptoms of these disorders and issues instead of treating children like they are all the same (or being unnecessarily harsh because the child's personality clashes with the teacher's). Not every child will learn the same or act the same, so we need to teach to their abilities so they don't feel like a failure for barely walking through our doors.

I initially was going to literally do an entire lesson plan for this assignment. We had to have an app for each stage of our assignment. Not that we would use tech the whole time, but just to show what we would use during each stage. There were so many good apps and tools that I found myself panicking a little because I wanted to use so many apps all at once. The bigger excitement though was finding a few gems to use in class literally between April to June during my ECE 2 practicum. I'm hoping to be placed in the room I'm currently working in for Pre-K (French Immersion program) and I technically have already started the butterfly project by ordering butterfly larvae for 3-4 classrooms at the beginning of May. I'm excited to show the kids Fancy Nancy on You Tube, and to show them the cool PBS book and have their teacher link the PBS book to the kids' Google Classroom accounts that they already have through the school. I'm thrilled to do a lapbook with both Kinders and Pre-K. It would blow your mind to see what these kids can do at such an early age, and it is something they can look back on and be amazed with what they were able to do as well. Proud doesn't even explain how happy I am about this lesson.
