We have been working hard in class to determine the appropriate reading level of each student. We are almost finished!!
This week we are discussing Story Maps. We are trying to ensure our "Retell" of stories is strong. The elements in a retell include, but are not limited to, the setting, characters, problems, events from the story, and finally the resolution. Students should be able to state all of these elements in an order that portrays the events in a story. Please make sure the students are reading at least 15 minutes each night. This could include reading their SS or Science curriculum.
Thank you and please message me if you have any questions or concerns.
Mrs. Kincer
8/6/18

We are in full swing here at TMS. We began the LLI Kit today in class. This kit looks at many aspects of reading. We begin the day with working with words, vocabulary meanings, and word origins. After we work on words, we delve into reading an appropriate leveled book. The students in read in groups catered to their individual levels. We discuss the books and events happening in the books and relate them to ourselves, our world, and our ideas. Please continue having the students read each night. Reading creates power!
Mrs. Kincer
8/13/18

Last week we began a chapter book study with the novel "Crash" by Jerri Spinelli. During this novel study we will be looking at vivid vocabulary, character traits, and we will track characters and how they change throughout the book. This is a very good book to notice character change and what elements in their lives encourage that change.
We are also continuing our LLI kit. In this kit we delve into books and words. Ask your child about his or her reading. Ask the big question when they explain their lesson. Ask WHY!!!!!!???????? If a student understands why, he or she is comprehending.
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Kincer
8/20/18

This week we are celebrating our school's accomplishment by receiving a STEM Banner from Georgia's Department of Education. We will be looking at a song some of the parents may know, "Space Oddity" by David Bowie. We are going to analyze the song and see if we can determine what message David Bowie is trying to present to us through figurative language.
We are also finishing up August Running Records. By doing a running record on each student monthly it will tell me if they are improving in reading level or if I need more one on one time with them. By a quick glance the results look very positive.
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Kincer
8/27/18

The students are progressing at a quick level! Thank you so much for your support at home. A student will progress at an extreme rate if he or she is reading at least 45 minutes per night. I know this sounds like ALOT, but reading is the foundation to a successful school and adult career. Keep READING!!!
Mrs. Kincer
9/11/18

It is that time of year when we get to relax at home and enjoy our families. Please do not forget to have your children read during the holidays! This is a great time for them to read to their younger siblings, cousins, and friends. Choose a favorite Christmas book and just let them use their imaginations and have fun. Older family members also enjoy being read to as well. Show off your child's progress in reading this holiday season!! Enjoy each other and take time to love your family!!
Thank you!
Stacey Kincer

First semester is over!! The kids have made so much progress. I am so proud of each and every one of them. Next semester I am saying goodbye to half of the kids and I will continue working with the others. If your child is leaving my class please make sure they read as much as possible. Practice makes perfect. For the ones that will be with me in January, we will be working hard to ensure we are successful in April on the GMAS. Our first priority is getting them on the appropriate reading grade level. Next we are going to work on strategies and skills related to test taking.
I look forward to the second semester. But before we get to the New Year, enjoy your holiday and take the time to spend time with each other. Time is priceless!
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Stacey Kincer
