When teaching a blind/deaf student, I will speak directly to the student and not to the interpreter. 

When teaching a student who deals with chronic illness or pain, I will be patient and understanding. 

When teaching a student with a physical disability, I will set up my classroom to allow room for their wheelchair or other equipment, give extra time, speak to the student and not to the para/note taker, and allow for additional needs to be met to better serve my students type of learning.

People with physical disability make up the largest minority group of the US.

Assistive technology is vital to more than a third of people with disabilities being able to take care of themselves at home.

In the US, 25.6% of people with a disability are physically inactive during the week, compared to 12.8% of those without a disability.

Some children with physical disabilities will have other disabilities, such as intellectual, visual or hearing impairments. They may also have communication difficulties or other medical conditions such as epilepsy or asthma. When a child has several different types of disability, professionals talk about multiple disabilities rather than listing separate conditions.

• Always be patient while speaking to someone with a physical disability because however they will speak, it can take the person time to finish their thoughts. 
• Never touch someone's communication device because it is their voice and very expensive.
• It is commonly assumed that people who can't speak, cannot think or are not smart, which is 100% not true. Don't assume!
• Do not talk in a baby voice or rub a person's head like they're a cute animal. 
• Don't be afraid to wave and say hello!
• Treat people the way YOU would want to be treated.
