Half Empty

The half empty cup symbolizes how the people believe things are not improving. Things are not going well for them, many don't have a house of their own, and they work for very little pay. The house is broken, the tribe is broken, and man is broken. They have to walk places because of the boycott. The ones that believe their cup is half empty, are the ones that choose to focus on what is missing in their life. Whatever they do, they are never satisfied.

This cup is half full. The half full cup symbolizes the progress that South Africa has had. There are native nurses, Shanty Town is getting houses built for them. The natives have whites helping them get rights. They are free of the chief and of the way of the tribe life. No one is to judge them in Johannesburg, everyone is too busy deciding on whether or not their cup is half full or half empty. The ones that believe their cup is half full are the ones that are grateful for what they have, even if it is little.

The background is a picture of the city. The people believe that Johannesburg is too big of a place to control, to take a hold of. So the city takes control of them, they give in to their lusts. The city is corrupt, so man becomes corrupt. That is the reason there is so much crime in the city.

The smiling baby sloth represents the white men in the story. They are happy, so they move slowly in their efforts to help the natives. They are not honest, they are corrupt. Power corrupts. And white men have power.

The activities that go on in the city are inmoral. Kids don't go to school; prostitution, drugs and liquor are popular among the people. The city itself is rotting. The money is dirty because of the use its put to. The city is stuck, white men don't know what to do. They're afraid of the natives, whom they consider trash. They could educate them, but they don't know what outcome that would being; the city, the natives, and white men are stuck, in a pile, living on top of each other, like trash.
