I absolutely love watching K-dramas! So far, I’ve completed over 30 series, and one fun fact about me is that I can finish an entire series in just one day. Watching K-dramas is my ultimate comfort after a long and tiring week. My all-time favorite is Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, the very first K-drama I watched on TV (in Tagalog dub). It’s a romantic comedy that I found so “kilig” because of its natural acting and heartfelt storyline. K-dramas are my go-to escape, giving me joy and inspiration in every episode.

During the pandemic, this game became my go-to activity, and I even formed an amazing squad of online friends. My classmates and teachers know me as “Cassandra,” while my friends and family prefer to call me “Nicole.” I’ve never been a big fan of my second name, as it’s so common that I reflexively turn around whenever I hear it, even if it’s not meant for me!

I’m 16 years old, born on March 6, 2008, in Digos City, and this is a little story about my life, my dreams, and the people I hold dear. One thing I truly love is my voice, especially when I use it to sing praises to the Lord. Since the age of 7, I’ve been part of our church choir, progressing to become a psalmist, Lourdes, and reader. Singing in front of hundreds of people during important events like Feast Day, Communion, and All Souls’ Day is an honor and a joy that strengthens my faith.

Unlikely Modeling Journey

I also joined modeling and participated in two workshops before the pandemic. It helped me a lot because I gained confidence, even though I wasn’t initially keen on it, as I was encouraged by my mom. This experience especially helped me when I won the Ms. GSP district pageant, which I consider my first and last pageant. Hahaha!

My Story of Growth

You might wonder why I’m now living in Davao City. This year, I had the privilege of becoming a scholar at Ateneo, which led me to leave my home and move to a new city. The transition wasn’t as smooth as I’d hoped—it was a whirlwind of homesickness and self-doubt during my first few days.

Back home, my parents would always insist I never skip breakfast before heading to school. But here, things are a bit different. I've had to figure out how to be independent in small ways—waking up on my own, managing my time, and staying strong emotionally. Even though it’s been tough at times, I honestly appreciate meeting some incredible people along the way, and having my old friends from school here with me makes a big difference. Leaving home wasn’t easy, but it’s teaching me lessons I didn't expect—learning how to handle change, becoming more responsible, and understanding just how much friendships and support really matter.

My family is my greatest source of strength and inspiration. They motivate me to dream big, not just for myself but for them. My ultimate goal is to give back to my father, who has spent most of his life working tirelessly to provide for us. He is the most hardworking and loving father I know. Although he didn’t get the chance to finish school, he took on countless jobs, ensuring we never lacked anything. As a child, I barely recognized him because he was always away working as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), returning home only every three years. My mom once told me a funny story: when I was little, I called my dad “uncle” and got upset because he was so close to my mom.

Now, he’s a seaman, and while we can’t always celebrate holidays like Christmas and New Year together, I’m thankful for the gift of media. Through video calls and chats, we stay connected despite the distance. My father’s sacrifices inspire me every day, and I want nothing more than to work hard and give him the chance to relax and enjoy life.
