Frank Ocean is a great source of inspiration for me. This is primarily due to the fact that he creates catchy and beautiful songs. It is also attributed to his willingness to challenge societal norms and to openly discuss issues such as identity, love and sexuality. As a musician I draw inspiration from his lyricism, his ability to tell a story and his coherent ability to draw out a multitude of emotions in a 4 minute track. Frank Ocean’s music inspires me to further pursue my passion for music and songwriting.

Stevie Wonder is a timeless musician. He has been credited over the years for his soulful artistry and has left an everlasting impact on Frank Ocean. Stevie Wonder's melodic sensibility and ability to seamlessly infuse his songs with emotion have allegedly really resonated with Ocean’s approach to music. In addition to this, his incorporation of social and political themes have noticeably inspired Ocean’s music. Wonder's influence can be specifically heard in Ocean's cover of close to you, a song that Stevie Wonder himself covered using a talkbox showcasing how "modern" technology can be used to make such a beautiful track. in his version of the track ocean also showcases a modern technology one could say a spin on the talkbox, a vocoder, specifically the prismizer effect (Frank Ocean, 2016). Here we can see how Stevie Wonders early adaptation of electronic instruments influenced Frank Ocean and his sound heavily

Prince's boundary-pushing approach to genre, his sensual and introspective lyrics, and his ability to blend elements of funk, pop, and R&B have inspired Ocean's own musical experimentation and genre-defying sound. Upon Prince's death Frank Ocean posted on his tumblr “I’m not even gonna say rest in peace because it’s bigger than death. I never met the man (I was too nervous the one time I saw him) and I never saw him play live, regrettably. I only know what I’ve heard and seen from his deep catalog of propellant, fearless, virtuosic work.” (Frank Ocean, 2016)
