Social Change is the transformation of culture and society institutions over time as social change is inevitable, controversial & often unplanned. It is difficult for most people today to imagine how different life was a century ago as society does not stay the same as said by the old saying “nothing is constant except death and taxes.” (489) As we know one of the many examples of social change is the example of the innovation involved in technology as we know we went from back in the day when there was no cellular phone to nowadays in 2020 to the newest service of 5g being introduced into society.

Voluntary behavior is of large numbers of people that often occurs spontaneously and which frequently violates the norms and values of dominant culture. Collective change is activity involving a large number of people that is unplanned, often controversial, and can bring about change. One prominent collective behavior activity would be the Mobs and riots as an example i am using the 1992 Los Angeles Riots purpose of protest against police brutality and racism mostly famous or well known for the beating of Rodney King an african american man who got beat up by white policemen. I related this to the chapter as the main goal of a riot is “power” in this riot caused people to come together for a good cause to show that they are not going to stay behind and sit quiet while they are also a part of society.

Modernization brings changes in social character personality patterns from common to members of society from the traditional-directeredness; rigid conformity to time honored ways of living to other-Directedness; receptiveness to the latest trends and fashions, often expressed by imitating others people are unable to build common to members of a particular society. I chose this image representing modernity and the individual as the guy was trying to form a round tire or wheel from a square and the other guy is just staring at him like he is completely crazy.

Postmodernity is what comes after modernity also known as a shift away from production and towards an economy, culture, identities, and lifestyle based on consumption. The substitution of a dominant culture meaning with an individual meaning of life style is a matter of choice. Modernity fails you meet human needs. I chose this image to represent the evacuees of postmodernity as one of the persons is admiring the deeper value of the little piece and the either one is just judging the price of the object thinking it shouldn’t be worth nothing, both having different opinions towards an object represents each one has a different way of seeing a situation in their choices of life.

We learn that in the past there used to be a large number of poverty as times have changed technology has evolved changing all around the globe. One way people see a solution to end poverty is to increase technological development to provide those in need with the foreign aid to help stimulate the economy. I chose this image representing our global future as the technology is known to be at the palm of our hands and easy to access on demand when we need it.
