         <description><![CDATA[<p>1950-1953</p><p><em>Summary: Fueled the Cold War because both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. backed one of the opposing Korean sides. The United States got involved when communist North Korea invaded South Korea. </em><em>The war ended with high tensions and an armistice. The peninsula between Northern and Southern Korea remains divided today. </em></p><p><em>Nations Involved: South Korea + United States vs. North Korea + U.S.S.R. </em></p><p>Foreign Consequences: U.S. was fighting a partial war and didn't put our full power into it. The war ended without a victor.</p><p>Domestic Consequences: Low approval for the war by U.S. citizens.          <description><![CDATA[<P>Vietnam was the longest war in American history and the most unpopular American war of the 20th century. It lasted 11 years against the French (1946-1957) and 18 years against the United States (1957-1975).</P><P><STRONG>Causes:</STRONG> Vietnam had been split into two, with a communist government in the north under Ho Chi Minh and a democratic government in the south under Ngo Dinh Diem. Ho launched a guerilla campaign in South Vietnam with the goal of uniting the country under communist rule. The United States, seeking to stop the spread of communism, trained the Army of the Republic of Vietnam and provided military advisors to help combat the guerillas.</P><P><B>Important </B><B>Nations in Vietnam War: </B> The main countries involved in the Vietnam War were South Vietnam and North Vietnam. South Vietnam was backed by anti-communist countries which included the United States, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Thailand, Khmer Republic, Kingdom of Laos and Republic of China (Taiwan). North Vietnam was backed by communist forces.&nbsp; There were 21 countries reported to get involved in the whole war in Vietnam.&nbsp;</P><P><STRONG>Important People:</STRONG>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</P><UL sizcache07064936545812843="10646 44 575" sizset="false"><STRONG>-</STRONG>&nbsp;Ho Chi Minh – Communist leader of North Vietnam until his death in <BR>1969.</UL><UL sizcache07064936545812843="10646 44 575" sizset="false">- Vo Nguyen Giap– North Vietnamese general <BR>who planned the Tet and Easter Offensives.<BR>- George William Westermoreland -Commander of US forces in Vietnam, 1964-1968.<BR>- General Creighton Abrams – Commander of US forces in Vietnam, <BR>1968-1973.</UL><P>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </P><P><B>Consequences:</B></P><UL sizcache07064936545812843="2449 44 139" sizset="false"><LI>The Vietnam War cost the United States 58,000 lives and 350,000 casualties. It also resulted in between one and two million Vietnamese deaths. Congress enacted the War Powers Act in 1973, requiring the president to receive explicit Congressional approval before committing American&nbsp;forces overseas. </LI><LI>led Congress to replace the military draft with an all-volunteer force and the country to reduce the voting age to 18.</LI><LI>The Vietnam War severely damaged the U.S. economy.          <description><![CDATA[<p>January 17&nbsp;1991- February 28&nbsp;1991</p><p>Summary- A war waged by coalition forces because Iraq took over Kuwait. This brought immediate <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctions_against_Iraq">economic sanctions against Iraq</a>.<br></p><p>Involved-34 nations led by the United States </p><p>Foreign Consequences- </p><p>Domestic Consequences- It made George Bush's popularity rise. Which helped the republican party.          <description><![CDATA[<p>  In 2002 and 2003, President George Bush cited the possibility of Saddam Hussein acquiring weapons of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons -- and thus posing a direct threat to the United States. U.S. launches cruise missiles at Saddam in order to free its people and save other countries from jihad. Marines advance into Tikrit with Cobra attach helicopters and 250 armed vehicles engaging Iraqi forces hidden inside a building.</p><p>The country risked all the dangers of war.          <description><![CDATA[<p>summery: September 11, 2001- Had the most impact on the U.S. Then we had killed Usama Bin Laden That was responsible for many terrorist attacks. Terrorist are groups of people and are very hard to track down because they are all spread out. The war on terror is fighting those who want to hurt Americans. This "war on terror" may never end. </p><p>Nations/ major people: Usama Bin Laden was the leader of Al Qa’ida. </p><p>Taliban has helped Al Qa’ida with support of hurting Americans and Taliban has helped keep Usama cover and not get caught. Taliban started helping him after 9/11.
