Let's talk about movies!!
My favourite movie is One Day!

MY FAVORITE movie! ONE DAY !!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVuuooZqVaU

With Anne Hathaway as Emma and Jim Sturgess as Dexter..

We will start watching at 10 pm (Spanish time), let me know if you want to join me

Let me tell you WHAT makes this movie so special and why it’s part of my life.

I read the novel by David Nicholls back in 2009, I was traveling around England that summer, after visiting a good friend of mine who was living in London by that time.

One rainy evening when I was spending my day in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace (I was doing a deep research on his work back then) and a cute little town with an English provincial beauty, I entered a cozy bookshop and there it was, as if it had been waiting for me, “ONE DAY: Twenty years, two people”.

That sounded like a book I would enjoy reading, I remember paying around 10 pounds for it, then sitting down in a café nearby and starting reading right away, and it was, by far, one of the best romantic novels I have read in my life (and I have reads HUNDREDS of books, fiction and non-fiction).

Two years later... summer 2011, I was highly pregnant and spending my summer in Las Vegas (3 whole months) when the premiere of the MOVIE was announced, as you can imagine I had tickets for the very FIRST DAY the movie made it to the cinemas. I couldn’t wait to watch it!!

So, there I was, 8 months pregnant and watching one of the most moving movies I have ever seen… so..

I really don’t know whether my hormones were acting up, or I was just emotional that day, but I just CRIED so much that my ex-husband started to worry, haha.

I tell you, this movie hit my emotions like a bus!

Absolutely one of the saddest and most beautiful movies I have ever seen!!

Don't let the cheesy trailer deceive you it's actually a fantastic movie!!!

This movie PROVES that you can live your whole LIFE not realizing that what you're looking for is RIGHT in front of you!!

For years, I IDENTIFIED with Emma COMPLETELY!!

A chubby woman, fighting through life, enduring shitty jobs, never giving up on her dreams and aspiring to become a great teacher in the future. Also, my relationship with some men have resembled exactly what she goes through, always in the friend zone, being that special woman that’s there for them..FOR LIFE!

I am really shocked that I can relate to this movie on so many levels. Platonic friendships can be confusing because you either see each other as good friends or you both secretly want to be together romantically but won't say how you feel to each other. The story of my life! Haha!

And so, I have been watching this movie, again and again, for years, until I have learned all the lines by heart. It’s my GO-TO movie when I want to fall in love with life again, when I want to remind myself of the power and the endurance of love, of the mystery of all our encounters and desires, and how some people make our existence… just magical !!

It goes without saying that I relate to Emma’s passion for writing and her unconditional love for Dexter, I understand her joy and her pain. She is ME, that’s why I love this movie so much.

Life is truly a wonderful journey, year after year, we never know what is ahead of us, how destiny will catch us off guard and make us fall on our knees in awe. Life is full of surprises!

Favorite line: Whatever happens tomorrow we have today!!

And, OF COURSE, the soundtrack of this movie is the soundtrack of MY LIFE. This song is the number ONE in all my playlists, Good Life by One Republic.

It reminds me of my countless trips to London and around Europe and the US…..my life has been so exciting!

Good Life by One Republic

Woke up in London yesterday

Found myself in the city, near Picadilly

Don't really know how I got here

I got some pictures on my phone

New names and numbers that I don't know

Address to places like Abbey Road

Day turns to night

Night turns to whatever we want

We're young enough to say

Oh, this has gotta be the good life

This has gotta be the good life

This could really be a good life, good life

I say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight

Like this city is on fire tonight

This could really be a good life

A good, good life

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

To my friends in New York, I say hello

My friends in L.A. they don't know

Where I've been for the past few years or so

Paris to China to Colorado

I'm hesitating about choosing this film because I'm conscious that is very commercial, even superficial but it gathers all my passions: no rules, rider freedom, and engine power.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zbFldEt844

I'm not going to give any information about the movie because it's well known by everybody.
Why do I like it?
There are several points in this movie that I appreciate.
Firstly the story develops around the most perfect engines that you can drive, an airplane. As an engineer, I'm fascinated by these powerful machines.

Furthermore, I was about to study to be an airman when I was in the university, so It's a topic I really like it.

But I recognize the most interesting points are the personal values that the main character shows:
- non-conformity with rules
- special connection with your machine
- self-confidence to do your best
- interested to go beyond

I really felt identified with these values when I watched this film 35 years ago, and even nowadays I share them. Maybe because, as a Maverick I'm a rider of a big motorcycle, and in essence all riders are maverick. We enjoy the freedom of riding far away, looking for new adventures and goals, riding and taking care of our bikes, and feeling that the conventional society is not for us.
I know It sounds like a few stereotypes: maverick boy, big machines, great and dangerous challenges ...

... but the stereotypes start with reality, isn't it?

I admit I feel really reflected when Maverick touches his plane and speaks with it, I do the same with my bike, she is going to take me to the next adventure.

I know ...It's crazy. !!!

Let's talk about my favourite movie! It may seem easy to you but it's really hard for me. I love cinema! I love drama films, action films, comedies, science-fiction films, ... every moment, every feeling, has got its suitable movie. Consequently it's so difficult for me to choose just one film, but after thinking in it, I decided to talk to you about one film that I love it and I watched again recently: "the martian".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBztfmxBDkw

"The martian" is a 2005 science-fiction film, directed by Ridley Scott and starring by Matt Damon. In 2035 the astronaut Mark Watney becomes mistaken abandoned on Mars after his team assume his dead. He must survive on Mars! He is alone, he is injured, he has got oxygen problems, and ... he is botanic!
Everything is against him! but it's fascinating!
After the spectacular storm, Watney awakens disoriented, confused,...he returns to the crew surface habitat to be able to think which one is the next step To survive! How do it?

"The martian" is a science-fiction film but you will not find spaceships, ray guns or monsters, you will find a lesson to live. Watney needs to survive in the worst imaginable conditions. He feels frustated, optimistic, insecure, sensible, ... It's a movie with plenty of feelings! I watched it hundreds of times and each time that I watch it again, there are some scenes that take my breath away. AWESOME INTERPRETATION OF MATT DAMON!! His grimacess, his broken voice, his pains, his fears, ...you can yourself feel the same.
((Parentheses open: I recognize that the landscapes are also AWESOME.))

In brief, I think that it's an initimate film that shows us the power of the HUMANITY. The important message is not what happens, but the emotional reactions in the charcaters. it's a science-fiction movie that finds a balance between drama and comedie. We can survive in the worst conditions! and our personality will be reinforced!

By Judith

Cinema week!

I'm going to talk you about one of my favourite movies! INTO THE WILD

You can see the trailer here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwtZgBFKlzs

Why I've chosen this one?

Into the wild is a brave and deep story about one boy, Christopher McCandless who broke with everything in his comfortable life, and started a long trip from the South of the United States, to Alaska, with the aim of find himself, having a simply life, live with less and be able to live close to the most wild nature in Alaska.

The most shocking of this movie is that this is a biography movie, so it's a true story. Previous to the movie, Jon Krakauer wrote a book about Christopher's life, and 11 years later in 2007, Sean Penn recorded the movie.

Christopher McCandless (his pseudonym was Alexander Supertramp) become a heroic figure for many, and we can find a lot of good books references in the movie, and the soundtrack is really AMAZING.

You can listen the full album here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIajEyhwUdE

If instead, you would like to read the book, you can also check it out here:
https://www.amazon.es/Into-Wild-Anchor-Books-Krakauer/dp/0385486804

I don't want to tell you too many details, I prefer that you watch the movie!

Seven samurai is one of the essencials of Akira Kurosawa cinema. If you hadn't seen it stop reading and go to see it now.
Here you have three resons to whatch this movie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V4dEWPJKNk

It's a story about how pain and suffering can turn into victory just using strategy. It depicts the desperation of a group
of a village of farmers who have lost their horses and harvest, and are forced to plant rice for the next year knowing that
the group of bandids who are threatening them is going to come to claim for the new harvest or will destroy the village.
That is the point when the strategy comes up as they deceide to aks to a group of ronin (wandering samurais) to protect them.
Does the end justifies the mean in war? Will the samurai be able to sacrifice everything (even life) to safe these poor farmers?
Will the farmers have enought courage to fight for the freedom of their land? Are the farmers being totally honests with the warriors?
Do they have hidden intentions?

As in real live not everything is what it seems, that's why i like this movie, because it shows how to defeat a stronger enemy by using
the ability of skillful people on your own benefit.

It's also a story that shows the opposition of farmers and samurais way of thinking. The first just want to survive no matter the cost, the second
one want to correct their passed errors proving their value in the battlefield for their honour and reputation, acording to the way of the samurai (bushido).

The story reflects how far you could go to save those who are fighting on your side when there are just the two sides of the coin, keep living or lose everything.

Of course as every memorable story also has a romantic side but as the entire movie has a dark flip.

I honestly cannot say why I like this kind of movies it's just something natural that comes to me and as an spotaneous affair I just can accept it.
Maybe It's just the action, the fights, the war in essence, maybe are the clothes used, the kimonos and hakamas, or maybe the changing weather used by Akira Kurosawa,
who gently designed every item of the film from the grade of deterioration of the clothes, to the scenarios of every fight, to the weapons or displaying of the houses in the village
to generate like microenvorements inside the same place. Brilliant.
Here I let a review of the movie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGVbhTbiafk

Please note that despite the fact that it shows the society of 1586 the film was released in 1954 so you will see some politically uncorrect things and situations, so just give it a try.

Here I let the main trailer and the second one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ1TOratCTo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNqQXC8Tv8U

And here a non-official remastered trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyD8JsGbsok

I don’t have a specific favourite film, because there are hundred of films, different genres of movies, that, for me, it’s impossible to have only one favourite film. But I have affection for a specific movie BIG FISH, was filmed in 2003.

This is the official trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0kiS4ROWkQ

This movie was directed by Tim Burton. I love the films from Tim Burton, animated or not. In this case, for me is a great movie on a father son relationship. It’s a fantasy movie. The film is based in a book with the same name, wrote by Daniel Wallace.

It’s very difficult to explain the movie. The father is in a bed because he is dying and he is explaining his life, again, to his son, who think his father is a storyteller.

The relationship between both is difficult because the son always has been thinking that his father never says the true. But in the latest moments, he was trying to understand why his father explain always the same histories.

The film explains the fantastic live of his father, and different people who find along his life, strange people, rejected people, but people, after all, who the father always help in the past.

Sometimes when I’m bored, I look for in Netflix or another platform and I start to watch it again. I think this is the film I’ve seen more times.

Is very recommendable, very fun. This film is not long, 2 hours, but the time past very quickly. Before to start the second beer, the film is finish.

If you have time to watch it, please don’t think twice and start seeing it.

In my case, I don't have a favorite film because is very difficult for me to choose only one movie. I love cinema. Before being a mother, I used to go to the cinema every week with my husband, but when kids came into our lives, we didn't have free time. However, when we could, we left children with the grandparents. Although it was before Covid. Since the pandemic arrived, we don't have babysitters. Fortunately we have a huge television at home, but it will never be like going to the cinema.

One of the films that has removed me the most and that I remember is Million Dollar Baby.

This film is directed and starring by Clint Eastwood and the other film stars are Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman, both one of my favorite actors. In fact I had the pleasure of seeing Morgan Freeman acting live in a New York theater.

Million Dollar Baby won four Oscar Awards, for the best film, best director, best actress (Hilary Swank) and best supporting actor (Morgan Freeman).

This film could be like two movies in one, because the first part by itself can be one based on an overcoming force of Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank), who gets her dream when she becomes a boxer and how the relationship with her coach Frankie Dunn (Clean Eastwood) becomes more and more closed.

The second part of the movie suddenly change its course, when Maggie suffers a dirty hit in a boxing match leaving her tetraplegic. In that moment the film is completely different when shows the selfishness of her family, that only want her money, or how Maggie fights to kill himself, opening the huge debate about euthanasia.

In fact Million Dollar Baby had a lot of reviews of activities groups and catholic community because they think that the point of view of the director justifies euthanasia.

By Ana Achau.

Sometimes can be difficult lo choose only one favourite film, but I recognized that this film always appears in my head and in my heart: Pay it forward.

The trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfW0wCV9iFI&feature=emb_logo

This is an american film (drama) made in 2000 which is directed by Mimi Leader. His script is based on a book of Catherine Ryan Hyde.

The performance of the actors is fantastic (Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey, Haley Joel Osment).

The beginning of the film explains two lifes, that at the end, these will connect together. One of these, a reporter (Chris) who want to discover the reason about a chain where he is included in it in Los Angeles. And the other part, the boy, Trevor, who has been able to create this idea.

A new teacher, Eugene Simonet, in a highschool in Las Vegas, exactly a poor neighbourhood, decides to sent his students a new project: “Think of an idea to change our world and put it into ACTION”. And his objective is very easy: he wants that their students must think about the other people.

One of these students, Trevor, who is more clever and responsible, in spite of his familiar situation (his mum spents little time with him because she has two jobs, she has problem with alcohol, and his dad has the same problem, and he hits sometimes his wife), thinks something amazing, because it needs that people works for other people with non-profit.

His project: you need to help to three persons with something that they can’t do it for themselves. And later, each person must do the same, he/she need to help another three person… “they must continue the chain”… the title of the film: “pay it forward”.

He decides to help:

· a homeless person – he want to this person can go out the street and improve his life with a job

· his teacher – because he thinks that he lives a routine life, without a reason to change

· a friend of his class – because he receives mobbing

Maybe you can think that this project is idyllic, because all people is more or less selfish, and helping for nothing should be easier than it seems. But, meanwhile you watch the film , you understand, which explain the main actor, that everybody is able to improve our life and share with other people, because nobody gives up his life, all can work to progress.
For instance, the movie explain different situation about people with problems about mobbing, poverty, drug addition, abuse… they can progress, and everybody can be solidary.

I prefer no explain more information, but It's a movie that doesn't leave you indifferent, all of us should think twice about the messages that you can learn about it.

If you can watch this film, I encourage you to watch it.

Montse
