In the text it says that Carla could pick up the people and carry them home quickly because from the distance it looks like everything is smaller. Carla feels like an ant to the giraffe because a giraffe is very tall and so is an elphant. Compering a giraffe to a human will make the human feel small like an ant because giraffes are usally really tall.
