Hello everyone, I am Estephany Oliva, and growing up, I have always been passionate about forensic psychology. I have always been fascinated by behavior or why things happen. When I was much younger I used to wish of owning horses and having a farm, but due to the circumstances, I must put my dreams on hold. To this day, I still love horses, and I plan to move to Panama City after I earn my associate's in Criminal Justice. This term is my second to last semester, and I couldn't be happier to be pursuing what I love most. I have a tendency to turn in my work early due to the anxiety that I might turn it in late. I try to get the task done regardless. I love ice cream; it is my favorite dessert and my happy food. I am not the biggest fan of cake, but as long as it's mixed with my ice cream I am content. I am excited to meet you all, and I hope for a positive semester for everyone.

I noticed that climate change started to impact those living in Miami and, it has become triggering for those who have been living their longterm now, and the cost of living has really skyrocketted as well. Now, as wealthier folks move into miami, those who have lived their before are being priced out of their own homes due not affording the property anymore. I hate to witness people suffer losing their home. Many people have culture here and have even gone out of their way to sell in order to earn their keep and their homes. I do not think it is right, especially with such harsh weather conditions, because some people are paying higher electric bills due to the extreme heat. It is not the people's fault for the harsh conditions, but they are still losing their homes. Although I can never understand why anyone would want to live closer to the beach after witnessing those cruel weathers and flooding.

I was aware that most cosmetics can be rather harmful to us. Although I never really looked into what it might cause over time. For example, dry shampoo contains 70 percent benzene, which happens to be a carcinogen. A carcinogen is a chemical with the capacity to cancer live tissue. I have been using dry shampoo the majority of the time, so to learn that something I have been using for quite some time now is concerning. Now it just makes me stop and think about the products I use in my everyday life. I thought the labels on our products would always live up to what was inside, but apparently, that is not the case. After watching the story of cosmetics, I learned Metals included in cosmetic formulas have the potential to be absorbed via the skin, build up inside the body, and injure internal organs. Now, this only makes me worried for children who use these types of products and what could happen to them in the long term.

Source: https://www.storyofstuff.org/movies/story-of-cosmetics/

In Why the US Isn't Ready For Clean Energy, the energy produced in the US is said to be considerably greener in the near future. By 2050, the nation wants to have roughly half of its electricity produced by solar power alone. I thought it was rather interesting, but it seems hard to achieve to go to such lengths. However, we cannot just construct solar power plants where coal and gas plants once stood. They must be constructed where it is sunny. Additionally, wind turbines must be constructed in windy areas. I was curious as to what could be prevented, the US from achieving its goal of clean energy, but with more development, I believe it is possible.

Oceans sustain life on our planet and control the climate system on a global scale. They contain approximately a million recognized species, making them the largest ecosystem in the world.

The only possible explanation for why humans might die that I can think of was all human-caused. What caught my attention was the development of the atomic bomb gave humanity the ability to self-destruct for the first time in history. Since then, the likelihood of our extinction or civilization's decline has increased. In the future, if we have a nuclear winter with very few survivors, we could theoretically have food for a while. The problem is that we as a species have the power to trigger a global nuclear winter and mass extinction. The universe has reset several times, but people are unpredictable. Before we had any insight, we created our downfall.

Aircraft emissions are not uniformly regulated on a global or even an airline-by-airline basis. When possible, take the train or bus instead of a short-haul flight.
Why I chose Goal 14 Life Below Water

I chose this goal because I wanted to show my love and care for the animal below the sea. The ocean can be affected by climate change. First, sea level rise, acidity, and temperature increases are all important effects of climate change on the oceans. As the oceans take in more CO2 from the atmosphere, their acidity rises as the oxygen content falls. According to UN Climate Change, the ocean has long borne the brunt of the effects of human-caused global warming. The ocean absorbs excess heat and energy produced from rising greenhouse gas emissions trapped in the Earth's system since it is the largest carbon sink in the world. Almost 90% of the heat produced by growing emissions has already been absorbed by the ocean as of today. As the ocean warms from the surplus heat and energy, unheard-of cascading effects such as ice melting, sea level rise, marine heat waves, and ocean acidification result.

Desalination of ocean water

Seawater can be desalinated to remove salt and other minerals, making it safe for food and other uses. Because it generates freshwater resources that might otherwise be sparse or nonexistent, providing fresh water to dry areas of the world can be a solution. Reverse osmosis and thermal distillation are the two most often utilized desalination processes. Reverse osmosis is the process of forcing seawater through a semi-permeable membrane to remove salt and other contaminants. In contrast, when seawater is heated using thermal distillation, the resulting steam is gathered and condensed into freshwater. Desalination can be costly, energy-intensive, and have an influence on the environment, but it can provide a consistent source of fresh water in places where conventional sources are few or unavailable. It is already being used to supply fresh water for drinking, irrigation, and industrial use in many regions of the world, including the Middle East, Australia, and California.

The great barrier Reef

I learned that a perfect storm is forming for our reef and the animals that depend on it due to the growing combination of rising water temperatures, worsening water quality from pollution and sediment runoff, more intense cyclones, and outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish. Although coral reefs only make up 1% of the ocean floor, they are considered the home to 25% of all marine species. Human activity has seriously harmed the Great Barrier Reef. Overfishing, irresponsible tourists and toxic coastal pollution are all factors in the harm done. Climate change, which results in ocean acidification and coral bleaching, is the greatest threat of all. Coral bleaching, a process that occurs when it is subjected to specific stressors such as changes in temperature or light, causes coral to turn white in color. The zooxanthellae algae that live inside coral turns hazardous as water temperatures rise due to climate change, therefore it is expelled. Zooxanthellae not only create coral pigmentation, but they also supply 90% of the energy needed by corals. As a result, most corals starve to death without the algae.

https://youtu.be/Tmd4tEDDF1s

The Cycle of Overthinking a Course

The Cycle of Overthinking a Course

For students, college is frequently an exciting and difficult time. It is a great advancement in education and personal growth. A lot of students enroll in college in order to expand their knowledge, hone their talents, and get ready for their future careers. Some students attend college to make new friends, pursue fresh interests, and widen their perspectives. It's normal to have some preconceived views about what you will study and how the course will be organized going into this scientific course. You could have thought the course would be challenging or that it would cover a lot of ground quickly. You might have also anticipated learning about particular scientific theories or concepts.

Before joining this class I thought I was going to be bombarded by so many assignments and homework. I assumed I was going to be overwhelmed by so much work, but that was not the case at all. I thought I was not going to be able to finish the class work during class time due to so little class time. I was never that big on science nor did I favor it. I had a hard time with science, especially when math was involved. During this course I found it to be very simple and engaging. We even reviewed the questions together as a class and thought about our answers. The assignments were not all too bad nor how I imagined they would be. I was scared I would have had to do the classwork for homework. This course was not at all fast-paced, which I was glad for. I didn't feel rushed into doing my assignments, and I managed to finish them all before class ended. I believed most of the assignments really changed my view of the world and shape my opinion now. I did not think so many of my day to day products could cause so much harm on my skin. Overall this course was a huge benefit to my own needs and knowledge.

Keep an open mind when it comes to your expectations and be prepared to modify them in light of what you encounter in the course. You may discover the course to be easier or harder than you imagined, or that the information is delivered in a different way than you had planned. No matter what your expectations are, keep in mind that the most crucial thing is to enter the course with a good outlook and a desire to learn.
