         <description><![CDATA[<div>Rotating blades spin a generator that converts the mechanical energy of the spinning turbine into electrical energy. <br><br>Pumped storage: when electricity demand is low, water is pumped back into the dam to be released again the next day<br><br>Reservoir:  body of water formed by damming a river or stream. <br><br>Intake: the place or opening at which a fluid is taken into a channel, pipe, etc.<br><br>Penstock: a closed pipe for conducting water into the powerhouse<br><br>Powerhouse: houses generator and turbine<br> <br>Generator: converts rotational energy from a turbine into electrical energy<br> <br>Turbine: A wheel or rotor that moves due to fast-moving water<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A dam is a man-made structure built across a river.<br>- Built to control river flow<br>- Improve navigation<br>- regulates flooding<br>How do they make hydroelectric power?<br>Hydroelectric power is produced  as water passes through a dam, into a river below. The more that passes through a dam, the more energy is produced.<br>Electricity is produced by a turbine which contain metal coils surrounded by magnets.<br>Pros: Provide clean, pollution free energy.<br>Cons: Harms the environment by hurting species that use rivers to spawn.<br>The highest dam in the U.S. is located in Oroville, California that rises 754 ft (230 meters) and more than a mile wide (1.6 Km). The nearest dam to us is the HOA dam in Garland, Tx.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hydroelectric dams reduce flood hazards.<br>-Reduces congestion of runoff in plains and coastal lands.<br>-River flow in the downstream reduces depending on withdrawals from dams through canals or pipelines.<br>-Reduced frequencies of floods and reduced peak flows reduce the agricultural and non-agricultural losses. <br>-Capture floodwaters and can release them under controlled circumstances to the river below, or the water can be stored. </div>]]></description>
