The main idea is that Katherine Johnson is an amazing woman because she has many achievements like graduating college (regular African-Americans stopped after 8th grade), joining NACA and calculated the flight path for Alan Shepard. Johnson was valued since she was really good at geometry, which was used in all the calculations. She overheard people trying to compute when a capsule should start so it could land in a certain spot, Johnson said she'd do it backwards and tell them when to launch. She was also personally asked to recheck calculations made by a computer!

The main idea is that Katherine Johnson is an important and brilliant African American woman. She was valued at NASA for her work as a mathematician and her work as a physicist. Both were key ingredients in her success at NASA. As a computer, she calculated the trajectory for Alan Shepard, the first American in space. Which is absolutely amazing for an African American woman at that time. im still alive yayayayayayay

The main idea of the story is that, Katherine may have been lucky, but it was her skill at geometry that allowed her to make such a great impact. Katharine Johnson was a valued employee at NASA because they were hiring African American women for the tiresome and exact work of measuring and calculating. And Katherine was great at that and could get the job done right. For example one of the jobs she had to do at NASA was, she calculated the flight path for Alan Shepard, the first American in space. Another job she had do at NASA was, astronaut John Glenn requested that Johnson personally recheck the calculations made by the new electronic computers before his flight aboard Friendship 7.

Another example is , "By 1953, the growing demands of early space research meant there were openings for African-American computers. That's where Katherine Johnson could put her mathematical skills to work." These are the reasons why Katherine was a valued employee at NASA.
