The fact that they aren’t applying this for the old pipeline seems to back this up. It will be interesting to see if they actually respect their agreements if they ever try to create more pipelines.

Many international laws aren’t respected due to a lack of enforcement. The United Nations cannot intervene in conflicts without the permission of the countries and the parties involved. It would be an infringement or disrespect of sovereignty if they did so which could cause further conflict. However, considering Canada is an avid member of the UN, the implementation of international law, especially when this country has such a history of human rights infringements against First Nations. Self-governing rights of First Nations People should be a priority. Why isn’t it? Why is the government not allowing the communities of First Nations to decide what happens on their traditional land? If First Nations Land makes up 1% of the country, why aren’t we allowing self-governance?

What baffles me is the fact that the river in the land is a natural resource of fresh drinking water. So if nature is giving us the resources we need to live, why should we implement a pipeline and destroy what is already there!
The government could instead work towards a long term solution for BC to help sustain our environment and it’s resources. As a result, this would benefit the Wet’suwet’en youth and the future of all our people. I understand that the pipeline helps us with our everyday lives, but instead of focusing on today, we should focus on eliminating non-renewable resources for a better more sustainable and renewable future. I know it will take time, but it could be a better topic for discussion. Ridsdale says he is worried about preserving the cultural history, so how can we compromise and figure out another way that benefits everyone on the big scale?
