I chose this picture for this reading because the story reminded me of the character Skeeter from The Help. I could almost picture a motherly figure talking to Skeeter and helping her with the do's and don'ts of life, but the young girl does not quite understanding her role as a young women in society.

I chose the song "I'm Like a Bird" by Nelly Furtado because while reading the story and the author was writing about Mrs. Mallard looking out the window after her husbands death she saw more clarity than sadness. I normally turn to music in my life for most things. AND YES... this song is a throwback... well for me.., but I felt it was appropriate for the main characters' feelings after Mr. Mallards death.

I warned you I always link music with everything... but honestly this song kind of reminds me of the story. "Earl" would be Mr. Wright in story because he wasn't such a great husband as it turns out to be. In the end the ladies that came to the house slowly start to realize the truth and do not blame Mrs. Wright for the circumstances that have arisen.

Yellow Wallpaper

This story made me think of the movie "Misery". Although the two are not exactly alike the caretaker in the storylines think they are doing good for their injured or mental ill person. In the end they end up doing more harm than good. The movie kind of freaks me out, and the story was a little weird so I connected the two together despite a few differences.

Let's be honest who doesn't love Legally Blonde?

On a real not Elle is trying to defend a fellow friend of her that she thinks highly of. The women in the story are also trying to defend a fellow neighbor that they know does not have bad intentions. Although the evidence does show Mrs. Wright might have killed her husband so did Elle's client, but she ended up being not guilty.

A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes

I know this is the first poem, but I really enjoyed the sweet/ short message it sent. I just watched a video on facebook the other day and it definitely reminded me of this poem. I think a lot of people let their dreams die on them and they never go after them, and we only have one life we might as well go for it.

When I read this poem I understood it was deeper than just the history of the freedom of slaves during Lincoln's presidency, but it was more about the struggles they have faced. I ultimatley thought of this song because it signifies one of the most important times in African American history.

Battle Royal

Reading this story I immediately thought of the movie I saw recently "Creed", The movie is a spinoff of the Rocky movies. Apollo Creed's son comes out to reveal he himself wants to be a boxer despite all the adversity he faces. He comes out victorious just like the main character in Battle Royal.

Brownies

As I read this story I immediately thought of Parent Trap. I mean GIRLS at camp plotting havoc? Yep... Parent trap. Although the brownie girls are a bit more vicious than the girls in the movie and their harmless pranks. I still tied the two together. AND now my favorite scene from the movie:

I was reading this story and thought of Raven Baxter. YES I am bringing back that so Raven. Let's be honest.... everyone loved that show. Now Raven and Sylvia have that same drama queen attitude, but at the end of the day they both are interested at the lesson that represents itself in front of them.

You gotta sisters right? Some may get along and some may be complete opposite. I think in this case it is more opposite, and there is even some hatred between the two. This reminded me of Cinderella and her awful stepsisters.

I chose Don Draper and his wife because they reminded me of Willy and Linda. In the beginning of Mad Men Don and his wife are so in love and he is very invested in his career, but he still loves his family just like Willy.

The Things They Carried

Before I started this piece of writing I checked the length and was fond to the idea it was going to be a short read, and I highly underestimated how much I would enjoy the story. I am dating a guy in the Marine Corps so some of the writing hit close to home. The emotional and psychical journey is hard and wearing on young men and women who serve. The story reminded me of Forrest Gump and how in the movie he served in the Army.
