In the book Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon the author shows multiple sides of the character to show how Madeline changes in certain situations (without Olly and with Olly). In the book Everything Everything a girl called Madeleine has SCID, which prevents her from going outside of her house, eating certain foods and having people contaminated. When a new boy moves in next door, Madeline immediately is attached/loves him. As Madeline loves Olly she can’t be without him, “I was happy before I met him. But i’m alive now, and those are not the same thing.” (Yoon 181). This quote shows that she feels “alive” when she is around Olly and she didn't like her life as much as before she met Olly.

In the book Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon the minor characters play a part in Madeline’s life to influence her actions, cause conflict and progressing the plot. When Madeline finds out that she doesn’t have a disease, she is ecstatic, and her mother is upset, “...Please,” she begs. “I can’t lose you too.Not after everything.” (Yoon 277). This quote shows that Madeline’s mother still hasn’t gotten over those deaths and she doesn’t want to lose Madeline just like she lost her son and her husband (Madeline’s father and brother). And she has kept Madeline inside for her entire life because Madeline is all she has left of her family. As Carla is like a parent to Madeline she gives her key advice, “Be brave. Remember, life is a gift.” She picks up her medical case.” (Yoon 141). This quote from Everything Everything shows that Carla tells Madeline advice that she will take with her for the rest of her life, and to show that they have a special connection.

In Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon Madeline is a risk taker for love and will do anything for Olly and whatever she wants. “Mads be serious we can’t go to Hawaii.’ ‘Why not.I got us plane tickets. I booked us a hotel...Last night with a credit card, because I want to see the world...I have the pills,Olly. They’re going to work.” (Yoon 178-179). This quote shows that Madeline is lying to Olly about the pills just so she can be with him in Hawaii. Also, since Madeline bought the credit card she wants to see the world that she couldn’t see because of her disease. And she wants to spend it with Olly even though she might die and she is spending this time with Olly because she loves him.

In Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon the window shows Madeline and Olly’s growth of their relationship and all of their conversations and that's where they met the first time. Madeline’s window in her room is a symbol that shows Olly and his family's schedule, “6:55 am-Stands at window. Writes Good Morning on the glass. 7:20 am-Waits for Kara to finish her cigarette...3:50 pm- Stands at window. Erases Good Morning and writes Hi on glass.” (Yoon 153). This shows that the window is a key part in their relationship because they are talking and it makes their relationship grow further and further. This also shows that Madeline “stalks” Olly and knows what he does everyday and that is getting to know him better and also shows his family’s schedule.

In Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon the author uses description to show Madeline and Olly’s love for each other and how Madeline’s life progresses.Madeline’s attitude will change because of Olly and she is attached to him and never wants to leave his side. “I don’t know why I do it Who is this new Maddy that is cruel for no reason?” This quote shows that the author uses description to show Madeline’s new attitude and Olly changing her life. This also shows that Madeline can’t be separated from Olly and she really loves him. All in all, in Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon she uses description to show Madeline and Olly’s love for each other growing and how Madeline’s life progresses with Olly and her love for Olly.

In the book Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon diseases can get in the way of public things (like school). For example, since Madeline is home schooled and has a disease she can't do certain things that regular teenage girls can do. "I've already planted miniature plastic palm trees and now I am strategically placing miniature plastic people." (Yoon 57). This shows that Madeline is home schooled and she needs tutors to come in and teach her because she can't leave the house because of her disease.
