At my school the math teachers do a great job of socializing (aka laughing with each other) as well as covering a student or school issue. Only 2 teachers from the group do not eat lunch with the rest most days, one has signed up to do lunch duty with the students but is otherwise there. So really there is only one teacher who does not. These teachers have agreed to make lunch time a place where they can just relax and enjoy one another. I think this is mostly the doing of the department chair and one other teacher who is responsible for student council. Both these teachers work hard at making lunch enjoyable and creating a "team" atmosphere.
