My background is in sales interior architecture, and I just got an offer for a position as a part-time sales associate at a furniture store. I decided to study in Business management program here because I would like to improve my English skills and learn about business. So the information literacy will help me so much in my career path. For example;

Material Selection and Specification detail
Client Communication and Presentation and sales skills
Sustainability and Environmental trends
New technology and new trend around the world
Problem solving and negotiation skills

Respect is the most important thing, in my opinion, because everyone should start with respecting themselves. When we respect ourselves, we won't behave in a way that brings dishonor to ourselves. Before you start doing something, you will consider every decision. You shall also show respect to both your instructor and your classmates. We have a variety of people living together because everyone came from a different country, therefore we should respect others in terms of their time, manners, collaborative activities and group work.

Do you think academic integrity should be practiced in the workplace as well as in our academic life? Give one example to show how academic integrity plays a crucial role in the workplace. (You might need to do some research on this topic. Remember to give appropriate citation).

Absolutely. I recently signed a contract to work as a part-time sales associate at Urbanbarn, a store that sells furniture. The company's policy about honesty, trust, and respect is outlined in the contract. For example, employees have a responsibility to be truthful and to keep all information about the business and its customers private. The harshest punishment for employees who disobey the rules is termination.

After watching the video on intercultural communication, I consider myself a high-context communicator. My communication approach is influenced by the warmth and kindness of Thailand, the land of smiles, where I was born. In my country, people are always kind, smiling, and considerate of others. For example, when I wish to make a point, I frequently employ indirect language and rely on the listener. I often use indirect words and rely on the listener when I want to argue something instead of directly refusing a request, I might say, "I'll think about it," expecting the other person to understand the hesitation. Sometimes I depend on established relationships and shared understandings to convey messages without detailed explanations. In Thai culture, strong interpersonal relationships and shared experiences are valued, which leads to a communication style. This approach helps maintain harmony and respect within the community and especially at the workplace.

Cultural differences, in my view and based on my experience, make a difference in workplace communication because each country has its own norms and culture, which might influence the workplace. For instance, I'm from Thailand. The most essential things in my country are hierarchy and respect. Respect varies according on age and position. Instead of shaking hands, we "Wai" like in the attached photo when we greet each other.

One more important thing is relationships. Thailand's culture is centered on groupings. Social bonds and a feeling of belonging to a group are valued more highly than individual goals. Because trust is essential to the development of relationships, they should be built carefully. It's important to remember that Thai people favor doing business with people they know and respect. Additionally, before finalizing dealings, they would rather have a well-established connection based on relationships. Prior to engaging in business negotiations, make sure other people feel comfortable with you.

People in my society are therefore motivated by relationships, connections, and respect from outsiders. Some people choose their jobs based on the kind of work that will earn them respect from others rather than the money. The health and insurance benefit is the other matter. Employees of large corporations or the government are able for this advantage, which includes funds for retirement. From a Canadian perspective, similar issues relate to health and retirement benefits, while different topics are age, hierarchy, and relationships. In Canada, respecting people based on their skills rather than their age, work-life balance, working in team, everyone can share idea, and personal development are important.
