Greetings everyone and welcome to NURS 708: Analysis and Economics of Healthcare Systems and Delivery. I live and teach from Asheville, North Carolina, and have recently joined the UNLV School of Nursing as a full-time geographically remote faculty member. Autumn is here in the Great Smokey Mountains and, the leaves are vibrant with the colors of fall - which are quite breathtaking and so very beautiful. I walk my dog, whose name is "Smoke", in the plentiful surrounding wooded areas, and enjoy the fresh air and all of the sights, sounds, and "critters" that are all a part of the local nature (currently turkeys, rabbits, mountain lions, and , of course, the bears say hello quite frequently [just be sure to wave to them at a distance!]). I have been quite involved in the analysis and economics of a wide variety of healthcare systems and related services delivery. In addition, I am also a forensic psychiatric nurse by trade and, when I can, I volunteer my services. One example includes this photo of a trip to Bolivia in 2011. Since I am a forensic practitioner, my role was to work with psychologists, prosecutors and judges regarding potential change in Bolivian national policy and practice regarding children exposed to physical, emotional, and, sexual violence. This is a photo of when I was working with children in the on-site school room of the Domestic Violence Shelter/compound where they were residing (located at over 12 thousand feet in the Andes mountain range!). I got to meet quite a few alpaca during that time and fell in love with eating quinoa :-) I look forward to learning more about each of you here in the "Introductions" Padlet" as well as to working with you throughout the fall semester. I will "see" you in class - - - Dr. C
