This is the website for Cassadaga. On the website they explain what Cassadaga is and what they have to offer. From first glance is almost appears if Cassadaga is somewhat of a religion, they advertise the place as a spiritual get away.

In this website, it explains a history Cassadaga, when it came to be, to a history of each building. It is interesting to note, that it is an old town, and typically when old building are always said to have "ghosts" or "spirits" roaming around in them. As far as Cassadaga goes, this is said to be true for it. The article is interesting as it is filled with many true historical facts and only briefly touches on the "spiritual" attraction of the place. I would almost say it is a mix of Proof of Verbosity, as there is so much true information about the place thrown into the article to attract you to it, but hardly any information regarding the theme, and "religious beliefs". It also displays a little bit of confirmation bias, as to whoever wrote the article has been to Cassadaga and even though the article is not persuading you to believe in psychics or mediums, the author never denies their abilities.

In this article I find it very interesting as it is written very informally from a skeptics point of view. In the article the author talked about the tours they took at Cassadaga as well as the psychic reading they underwent. For the purpose of this article I am going to focus on their psychic reading review. The author makes it clear at the beginning of the article they are a skeptic. The first red flag was the price. $55 for a half hour reading. When people go to Cassadaga I can assume that almost everyone gets a psychic reading done, at at least $55, that adds up to a lot of money. The author goes over the things the psychic told him, none of which he believed to be true about his future or the things the psychic was saying about his passed grandmother. What I did find interesting tho was that the psychic then started telling the author about her life, and her childhood and how she came to be where she is. To me this is an example of emotional connection, trying to connect to his passed grandmother, as well as touching on her life, trying to connect to him on a deeper level.

This is a video from a man doing a review of the Cassadaga. It is a short 5 minute video, nothing to in depth, however one of the first things the man says, you need to come here with an open mind and an even more open wallet. Proving that the town is more a tourist attraction, a business, their main objective is to make money
just like any other business.

This is a video from a supposed Cassadaga Spiritualist camp meeting. The start of the video you hear weird, computerized voice, all of different tones, almost as if some are female voices, male voices, young and old voice. None of the sentences make sense, none of them flow together. The lady who is holding the serve, talks about an app that you can use to record the voices, and shares some of her past experiences. We know that there is no real technology out there that had been proven to actually record "spirits" voices. In my opinion this is almost an example of appear to authority, because in Cassadaga, everyone has a title, they are all know as "teachers" or "reverences" almost as if they are in a higher authority to the average person. Another red flag is confirmation bias which refers to the mediums and psychics who all belong in the community of Cassadaga.

This video starts off with connecting spiritualism to religion. Essentially explaining that spiritualism is its own form of religion. Also talking about spiritualism and what it is, and what is expected of you living as a spiritualist. The information in this video all relate to the red flag of mystical energy. It also talks about emotion connection when explaining the types of mediums and psychics offered at the camp.

This is an image of part of the town. You can see how the town as stayed almost the same over time, many of the articles I read explained that people are attracted to the place not just for spiritual side of it but because of the architecture, it has history, they have been able to restore it over time. I find this interesting because to me it almost seems like a way to attract more people, not just the ones coming from the services offered. In many articles I found, members of the town often explain they do not like media attention as it sends our negative images of them, but I cannot help but think this is part of the act. The town has so many attractions to offer it screams tourist attract, and to keep the town looking as close to what it did from day one adds a whole other element to why people would want to visit. In my mind this town is after attracting as many people as possible for money, whether you visit for a reading, or visit to see the sites, you are bound to spend money somehow.

This is a picture of a chair in the graveyard in Cassadaga. It is legend to be called the Devils chair, said that anyone who sits in the chair the Devil will be revelled in front of them. They also said that a can of beer would be left on the chair at night and by morning it was gone or emptied. It has been debunked as an urban legend. However, for a town that spirits are so heavily believed in and said to be around all the time, they are sure to believe in the Devil as well. So if this legend can be debunked, then what does that say about the legend
of beliefs for the entire community of Cassadaga. To me this is an example of simplicity, two ideas, somewhat similar in believability, one has been proven to be fake, so in my mind the other must be fake as well.

This is an image of the Cassadaga hotel, it has changed owners multiple times over the years. It is said it be a haunted hotel, and that friendly spirits walk the halls and roam the bedrooms. People believe what they want to believe, most old or historic building are said to be haunted and of course people believe them because they want to. In this case I feel that it is an example of appeal to authority as stated before the people who live and work in Cassadaga almost appear to have authority over you as they are professionals in the spiritual world, and when they tell you a place is haunted you are sure to believe it. I think it also could be somewhat ancient wisdom, as the community was created back in the 1800's and the community has only grown but its core values still relate back to those set in when it first originated.
