On May 28, 1942, Mexico declared war on the Axis powers -Italy, Germany and Japan- to defend national sovereignty. The first attack occurred on May 13, when German ships caused the sinking of the Mexican ship, the name of which was "Potrero del Llano". Obviously, given what happened, Mexico showed its disgust by issuing a document so that Germany would take responsibility and cover the compensation for the damage caused, which they ignored. In conclusion, Mexico and Brazil declared war on the Axis countries in 1942, and Colombia declared a state of belligerence in 1943, this term means the participation of a person or group in a given conflict. In all these cases after the sinking of their freighters by German submarines. Bolivia also declared war in 1942.

This region became an important supplier of raw materials to the countries at war, in this case we are talking about the United States and the United Kingdom, and at the same time it was able to continue with the import substitution process due to the shortage of imported products that arose. in that period. During the war, both internal and external demand increase in a worrying way. But thanks to this, significant industrial growth was achieved in the region.

The Second World War boosted the trade balance thanks to the increase in exports of strategic products such as: natural rubber, rice and others. whose demand was certainly increased to meet the needs of nations at war. The effects of the world conflict were mostly positive, especially those that referred to the external sector of the economy, in the same way, there were beneficial impacts in the internal sector, due to the notable dependence of this sector on international trade. However, this dynamism probably lasted during the conflagration, because when it came to an end, there was a slowdown in export activity together with a gradual increase in imports and consequently changes in the economic, political and social panorama of the country.

África

Africa's geostrategic importance declined and with it it lost the flow of weapons while development aid remained at fairly low levels. Some forgetfulness on the part of the great powers will be required. In the Russian case, the abandonment of the continent was total and Moscow would begin to refocus on it years later. In the case of the United States, Washington will not be affected, but the attention devoted to it was significantly less. The positive thing was that, given the geostrategic disinterest shown by much of the world, African leaders had more room for maneuver than in the past. At least during the first years after the end of the Cold War, an African elite seemed to seek local solutions to their own problems, without external interference, although in the long run they ended up being servile to foreign powers. The truth is that regional powers such as South Africa or Nigeria emerged. Indeed, to this day both countries dispute the African economic primacy. The bad thing was that the lack of international attention made possible misfortunes such as the collapse of Somalia (1991), which ended a failed US intervention followed by a rapid withdrawal, and the genocide in Rwanda (1994), responsible for the murder of at least 800,000 people massacred in just 100 days in the face of the passivity of the international community. Neighboring Burundi also saw worrying violence, and in West Africa, Liberia and Sierra Leone lived through most of the 1990s in civil war. As if that were not enough, at the end of the 1990s, the Great Lakes region became a veritable tinderbox with the start of what became known as "African World War I", responsible for the largest number of deaths in conflict war since the end of World War II.
