Justice- making things fair and equal

Criminal- a person who broke laws and hurt others

Justice in USA- punishes people I think because we rely heavily on prisons and not much on returning people to society

When I think about the word "justice", I think about changing something unfair in a way that benefits society.

"Criminal" makes me think of someone who is a bad person as well as violent and dangerous.

The purpose of the justice system in the US is to both punish and rehabilitate people. Unfortunately, I don't think rehabilitation efforts have been that successful.

The word justice makes me think bringing equality and a peace of mind to someone affected by something. When I think of the word criminal, I think someone who has done something that negatively affected others. I think the purpose of the justice system is to keep things in order and prevent people from being hurt.

Justice in the USA - i think the US Justice system only punishes people, whereas in other countries like Norway, the justice system focuses a lot more on rehabilitating them.

1) The word Justice brings me the idea of rules and being proper, like penalizing someone because they broke the rules would be justice.

2) The word criminal brings me the idea of someone who did bad things like crime.

3) I think the system is used to punish rather than make people a better person, because prison isn't giving any rehabilitation efforts

i think that the purpose of the justice system is to help redeem people for their previous transgressions and encourage rehabilitation. although sometimes, especially in the US is not often working within these purview

the united states justice system seems to punish more people than rehabilitaing them, cause when most people get out, their only option is to go back to crime or to become homeless

Danny - The U.S justice system definitely does not function in this way, as many people are wrongfully convicted just to make sure someone was. I don't know if it would be better to work this way, though, as it would allow many dangerous criminals to walk freely just because the prosecution couldn't find 100% evidence against them.

There have been improvements in how the justice system is, but the way evidence is handles still remains unfavorable but yes, it does tend to function this way unfortunately as someone who has had an aunt go through prison. -Asher

1 - No I do not think that the US governement thinks this way. The plenty cases of unrightfully arrests proves this.

The justice system definitely functions like this but it absolutely should not. There are a lot of cases where details slip through the cracks for various reasons and result in wrongful convictions.

no it should not function this way because first of all its not fair to the innocent ppl who go to jail, while the crime commiter is out living life, that doesnt really solve anything cause they r just going to on and commit more crimes

Keira - I don't completely agree with this statement, because 100 criminals released is a lot of crime that could happen, but at the same time having a person that didn't deserve jail time go to jail is awful. I think if it were just 100 people guilty for petty crimes, it wouldn't really matter, but 100 murderers would be horrible.

I think its safe to say that the Justice system isnt perfect, and that a ton of people are wrongfully convicted, but in the case that 100 guilty people should be freed so one innocent person is fine, in that case, I feel like there isn't a good answer if it it should be that way. Like the guilty people freed, over 70 of them will go to commit crimes against way more innocent people - arjun

I think that instead of being locked in a jail cell everyone who is convicted of a crime should be sent to get help. this would be better for everyone and it would even cost less money to send them to rehab or come to a camp that helps them become better people. terra

I do not think that the U.S. Justice system works this way because the amount of times that this has happened is very rare. I think they should ensure that they get the right person the first time and get the right evidence so nothing like this happens again.

I don't think the justice system actually functions this way. I don't think the justice system should function this way because although it isn't fair for someone to be wrongfully convicted, I think would be worse for 100 guilty people to be free.
