Brief Summary

This is a story about a man accused of 3 counts of rape that he didn't commit. Well, at least that's what Billy Milligan's thinks, though he cant be to sure because he cant remember doing most of the things that people say he did half the time. Ever since he was nine he felt like he was "losing time" and has not found out why this keeps happening. Thinking he is crazy Billy becomes suicidal and as such is sent from one mental hospital to another, awaiting his trial to see if he should go back to jail.

Review of the book

I liked the book a lot and found it very difficult for me to put it down. I thought that the plot was very intriguing, it is a true story which makes it quite fascinating to learn everything that this man had to go through. He is made to be very relatable in my opinion because he is just starting up his life and then everything kind of hit's a train wreck for him. I believe that the portrayal of the Disassociative Identity Disorder was very accurately portrayed because the symptoms and causes for it all match up with the medical records and symptomatic warning signs. Also the reaction of the people to this disorder was probably even more accurately portrayed than that.I would definitely recommend this book for others, because it is great book for anyone looking for a true story that will inform you, but will still engage you in the intricate story. I think that the appropriate target audience would be anyone in 9th grade and above, because i feel like any time before that the kids dont really get a chance to appreciate what the book is trying to say.

Powerful Passage

"I can't tell you or else Arthur will get mad at me, so you have to promise not to tell anyone" (65 Keyes). This passage really affected me because they saw this as the people of the society saw D.I.D., as a problem that nobody could solve or that it was there fault that they were acting this way. It got to the point for Billy that the personalities were afraid to be identified by anything but Billy for fear of going to a Mental Health Center and getting the wrong medication again.
